Bivol beat him 11-1 but Canelos judges make it very close fight on their cards.

Imagine if it was 8-4 for Bivol, they would give win to Canelo.

Credit for he choosing a small puncher, who was average in his last fight and thinking that they would rob him ? NO.

When was last time Canelo was fighting someone where he is not an odds-on favorite ?

Bivol just put him on notice that he would be in bigger trouble the second time around. Now he looking at Bivol on one hand and Benavidez on the other. That's a hard knock life. He might try and go get at Morell before he grows up.

Actually Canelo wasn't that bad against Bivol. I watched the full match again on DAZN's YouTube channel.

There were moments where Canelo bullied and brutalized Bivol. With some adjustments, Canelo may beat Bivol in the rematch.

Bivol secret to success is he does non-stop 5-6 combos and his opponent is dismantled and frozen. It makes Bivol look good to judges and audience. A smart boxer might counter him with a big shot and finish him off.

Coming off that streak of KOing Yildirim, breaking BJS face and KOing Plant I definitely believe Canelo and his team thought he would KO Bivol. He fought Bivol the same exact way he fought BJS and Plant. He just found out that Bivol was a bit more stronger, quicker, and disciplined than expected.

    He shouldn't get special credit.
    Why?

Because he and his coach called Beterbiev's name numerous times and then picked the smallest and weakest puncher at LHW instead. He yet again picked the perceived weakest champion just like he did with Rocky Fielding.

The difference is that he guessed wrong this time because Bivol turned out to be better than many thought. It's similar to when people didn't think much of Badou Jack but he was solid all around, similar to Bivol, and caused people problems.

So let's not rewrite history and pretend everyone thought Bivol was the strongest LHW when Canelo chose to fight him.

The other aspect is Canelo's PED use which gives him advantages even when he goes up here. Bivol can almost make 168 which means he's not even that much bigger so people saying Bivol is so much bigger, well, not really true.

To put this into perspective, if Canelo had chosen Beterbiev instead and had a 'flat night' like he suggested happened, he would have been KO'd cold, and probably anyway. With Bivol, he knew he'd likely not get KO'd even if he lost, so the risk was less than people want to believe.

    Come on Joker

Canelo fought a Bivol who was paid to go 50% max. Look how Bivol was sitting down on pretty much every punch and fully extending against a bigger hard hitting essentially cruiser yet he was pitty pattying a rather static Canelo for much of the fight

Beterbievs name was mentioned numerous times but Canelo fought Bivol who although a very good boxer is nowhere near as dangerous as Beterbiev as well as Beterbiev being the top guy at LHW. Bivol had put some lack lustre performances in but in the Canelo and Ramirez fights he did show his class and now is rated at no1 despite his 1 belt to Beterbiev being unified with 3 belts .

I can't see any future at 175 for Canelo with Bivol and Beterbiev there. A rematch with Bivol would end the same if not worse and I think Beterbiev would blast him out. I've seen some talk of Bivol fighting Canelo at 168 but that makes zero sense to me.

You are correct. Canelo would have no way to get around the Killer Bs at 175. As far as fighting Bivol at 168, Bivol may do it because the money is good and Canelo may do it because he may think the lower weight could make a difference. I can't imagine that it would.

Stop using hindsight to your benefit. Fighters like Canelo purposely fight guys who come off of unimpressive performances. I highly doubt you (like most brainwashed fans) thought Bivol would win.

He was severely underrated by almost everyone!!! Only a select few (including myself) thought he'd win the fight. You guys kill me with the revisionist history.

You're just one of those haters who goes around making excuse after excuse rather than man-up and give fighters their proper credit.
This board is loaded with them.

I picked Bivol to win. It's on record here. Anything else.

@HolDat and @BoxingDialogue I thought I would insert myself into this conversation uninvited. HolDat's comment had me curious. I didn't remember the predictions being overwhelmingly for Alvarez. I checked the Bivol-Alvarez prediction thread on this website, 69 people picked Bivol and 68 picked Alvarez. Maybe it's not so much revision after all.

his hand was forced into it when he signed that massive deal w dazn. He prefered to fight joe whatever and makabu at cruiser which we woulda got rather then bivol. To further prove he wants nothing to do with bivol, he will never rematch him. He couldnt win 1 round legit. He will take the winner of plant vs benevidez and prob turn it down if benevidez beats plant.
