One of the most underrated fights of all-time.

A true classic. Yes, a classic.

Both Sanders and Williams took serious beatings against Vitali.

Warning: stepping into the ring with Dr. Ironfist is harmful to your health.

That fight, in my opinion, is highly underrated. Both men looked like they were fighting for a title. I couldn't believe how fast Corrie's handspeed was.

After the first round of that fight, Larry Merchant remarks, "That short, hard left of Sanders...nothing like it in boxing!!" To me that says it all!!

I disagree. It seems to me that Vitali went down as a result of being off balance. Sanders landed a good shot, then a number of seconds passed with after which Vitali stumbled while dancing away from Sanders.

Sanders was a very tough fighter, but Vitali gave him a terrible, one sided beating.

Some journalists claimed after the fight that Hasim Rahman beat Sanders more decisively and with greater ease than Vitali did. I totally disagree. Sanders took a far worse beating against Vitali than against Rahman. Arguably, Vitali controlled Sanders throughout their bout much more thoroughly than Rahman was able to do to Sanders.

There was no KD and Vitali would beat Sanders 10 out of 10. Sanders is the type of fighter that will always awaken the beast in Vitali. Yes, he landed some good shots and the effect was? Exactly, Vitali hit back harder and more often. The ration of power and chin against the power and chin of the other fighter would always favor Vitali in a truly aggressive fight against most fighters in history. I still believe that a slick boxer with a defensice strategy would have a better chance of beating Vitali (without injury) than someone going for a KO.

I see what you are trying to say. Sanders showed more heart than many of those other guys. It is pretty sad actually when you consider Sanders was always known as lazy and was half retired and playing golf, comes in fat and yet still puts in more effort during the fight and showed more heart than Sam Peter.

I give credit to Sanders for putting up a fight too but people saying that if he was in good shape he would have won are on another planter. Vitali really gave SAnders a terrible beating.

no i mean Wlad. He definitely looked soft vs. Vitali but vs Wlad he was by no means in shape. He was ten pounds lighter vs. Wlad but was still flabby. could have added some bulk and lost some fat or simply lost some fat. It didn't matter. Even out of shape he wouldn't be gassed after 1.5 rounds.

If you look throughout history, very few heavyweight fighters have ever been "body beautiful" heavyweights like Evander Holyfield...look at riddick bowes physique. In the heavyweight division, a rock hard physique has never been a prerequisite for success. Look at Frank Bruno.

People make too much of the physique appearance in deciding whether a fighter is in shape. Sanders took brutal shots for 8 rounds and was still on his feet. If he really was that out of shape, could he have taken all those punches and still been on his feet in the 8th round? I thought Vitali tired too in this fight and it took a lot out of him to beat Sanders...unlike Williams or Peter. This fight looked like two guys fighting for the title giving it their all on both sides..

Vitali is very consistent with his shots and beats you up for a mid - late round stoppage. Peter went into a shell the same way Tua did vs Lewis.

Respect for people like Sanders and Tyson who actually try to win and get stopped in the process.

Exactly, I remember looking at the Corrie Sanders training videos and thinking he looked like the most fluid heavyweight fighter I had ever seen. His handspeed is so fast and fluid...they come at you like whips!!
