I was never a fan of Antonio Tarver while he was an active fighter. I didn't like his trash talk and I hated how he starched Roy in their second fight. Since then, I've grown to like his commentating style where he does a class job.

My question in this thread is: Has there ever been a better example of someone calling another fighter out and then delivering in such emphatic fashion? Looking back now, that is one of the greatest call-outs in history given how he delivered on it. Credit to Tarver.

I actually always wondered what was Roy's excuse in the first fight?

He said the weight loss hurt him after Ruiz.

Edit: In other words, he was discounting Tarver's performance in the first fight by saying that it wasn't Tarver being good but him being drained that made the fight be close.

No problem. Tarver was obviously offended by that and already had a grudge against Roy because he felt Roy avoided him for years and they knew each other from many many years before.

    It is pretty bad ass.

Tarver has grown on me as well. I'm actually pulling for him to make a little noise at heavyweight.

I'd LOVE to see him starch David Haye with another big left hand like he did to Roy.

I think only Joe Namath guarantee that the Jets would upset the Colts in Super Bowl III is in the same league as Antonio Tarver's "I got a question, you got any excuses tonight, Roy?"

If we're going other sports also, I'd throw in the "Messier Guarantee" from hockey where he guaranteed a win against the New Jersey Devils (Messier was Captain of the New York Rangers). In the actual game, the Rangers were losing by two goals going into the third and final period. Messier hoisted his team on his shoulders and scored three goals and got an assist in that final period. It doesn't get more epic.

Roy was/is one of my all time favorites. I was hoping he would put Tarver in his place and whip that ass. It was not to be, Tarver got lucky...and Roy kind of deserved it.

    Nice Hockey shout out!

I live in Edmonton and was fortunate enough to see prime Messier play here for many years. He was one of the best leaders in all of pro sports.

It was a great call out, but it lost a little of its shine when Tarver used the same excuse when Hopkins kicked his ass.

I'd be hard pressed to find a better one. I mean, it wasn't just a call out and then the delivery but what took it to the grandest of scales was that it was Roy Jones. Nothing that I can think of quite comes close.

Oh wait, there is always this...

...You were in Edmonton during the 80s Oilers? Life must feel so ordinary, now. That was one of the greatest sports teams in history of any sport.
