for once i agree with you. Hopkins will most likely go out on his shield for the first time ever..and no shame in that at his age
I thought the first was going to be a close call and slightly favoured Dawson on youth. I don't feel any differently now and saw nothing to change my mind in that initial brief encounter. I think Hopkins has mind****ed the far simpler Dawson but Dawson's still been around the block and he will be faster, taller, heavier, and of course so much younger. Hopkins being many times more intelligent This content is protected
I'd love to see Hopkins win but age will show here. What is he? 48? Too damn old and he can't be any better than he was during their first fight.
as many of you as said, bad style match up for b-hop. dawson is a counter puncher who is more athletic then hopkins, the same problem he ran into with jones, taylor and calzaghe. however you can count the old man, he just might have one more ace up his sleeve.
I'm feeling something in me waters for this fight...maybe not a Nard win but I honestly cannot envisage Chad stopping him legitimately...I think he will have enough trouble winning a wide decision.
Great post, BoxedEars. My mind hasn't changed much since the first fight either, and I favor Hopkins for many of the reasons you already stated, but also because Dawson tends to fight in spurts. He never fights hard every second of every round, and I think B-Hops will take advantage and pounce during opportune moments. With Dawson's mental lapses I think Hopkins stays right in there. At the end I think we're looking at something that will be close and competitive either way, and a genuine draw wouldn't really surprise me either. :smoke
I wouldn't be surprised if the fight starts off the same way as the last one did but with Chad winning the first 3-4 rounds then once he get's comfortable he'll relax a little maybe not follow Hopkins around the ring as much maybe not throw as much and then Hopkins will start to open up a little maybe winning some close rounds then about around round 8-9 Dawson's corner will shout at him to wake up and press the action again because he's losing rounds then we'll see Dawson maybe get a little bit careless leading to an exciting finish with the final cards getting called; 115-113, 115-113 114-114 MD Hopkins (though the way they like to **** Hopkins over on the scorecard that will probably be in favour of Dawson)
If it's close, and Dawson appears to have a slight edge overall, I wouldn't be surprised if this one time things went Hopkins' way instead on the cards.
Not once has Hopkins been given the benefit of the doubt when it's tight and it's come down to the scorecards in a SD/MD type situation and the boxing establishment has really needed him to retire for some time now as proven by the Taylor fights so I very much doubt he'd get the decision if it's close.
Hopkins throw 10-12 punches per round on average against Jermaine Taylor in the second fight, he was beaten twice by Jermaine Taylor.
Chad Dawson landed 20% of 16 jabs thrown per round in their first fight :yep Hopkins 40 % of powerpunches thrown :hi:
