I don't know how he does it, but a year ago against Pascal he was looking strong as a bull. Dawson has made things personal and Hopkins is going to come in to the fight in top shape. He can't have lost that much physically in one year.
I'm hoping all the stuff from the first fight was part of Bernard's plan to get inside and **** up Dawson's head so he comes in far too angry and not properly focused this time. Chad's not exactly a Macchiavellian thinker.Cerebral tactics aren't his strongpoint.
I don't know about it all being a plan of Hopkins, I think he was really hurt. Either way Dawson should have kept his big mouth shut. Let sleeping dogs lay, but like you say cerebral tactics may not be Chad's strong point.
A drawption, if you will. Us busy urban types on the go, can't worry about enunciating every syllable and keeping our words separate. Let the yolk run into the toast, I say. Mm, tyoalkst.
I've always believed he was hurt. But nothing would surprise me with a wily old fox like Bernard. The ultimate boxing survivor.
Or it could have been "if you think you're alone picking Bernard, try Siberia where we fancy the draw!"
Dawson had every physical advantage against Pascal but still lost. He had shown good boxing skills previously but looked lost against Pascal who didn't do much more than rush forward with straight rights, tie up and then back off. And Dawson just couldn't adjust in time. We can't really learn much from the first fight as it was so short and Hopkins hadn't really got going. Neither of them seemed to keen to engage the other. What I'm thinking is that Dawson should win but I can't see that happening. In too many of the rounds he'll allow Hopkins to land his straight right as Pascal was able to land it, and Hopkins will do enough.
Hopkins most certainly can't be counted out of it for sure. However, I think it will possibly be one step too far for old Bernard. I think it'll be a points decision to Dawson, but not a too clear one though.
What I take from this thread is that some Hopkins supporters believe that he has gone way too far in his career to deal with this mountain to climb up and that means stayin down at the beginning of the climbing or very close but not before someone else reaches the peak. It actually reminds me of a rematch fight between Holyfield and Lewis when Lewis was rocked more than enough so that people could say that Holyfield was a sure loser coming into this one. Hopkins is far from his best days sure but that doesn't mean that in the present circumstances he can not go toe to toe and even leave this guy behind in a lot, I mean a lot of boxing perspectives... Ring Generalship, Defense of course, Powerpunching, Accuracy and I won't say Volume but effective punching all the way to win more rounds than lose.
That's exactly what I think is gonna happen but I also believe that Hopkins is gonna shock people on how fast he's gonna look at his age. Because you need to have good footwork and some speed to deal with a fighter like dawson and he has the footwork but he hasn't been talking to much leading up to this fight because he's gonna have a suprise up his sleeve. When you've followed Hopkins career you know he not only does things his way but he's a master at timing things at the right time.
The old man got just enough eye on the young buck to squeeze off one last great shot. Am I right? Am I?
