Ok so I had a weird dream last night that I saw Joe Frazier fight Ken Norton live in a small gymnasium. They were not in their primes. But they were still able to bang. Don't remember the details all that much but I do remember the result; Norton won handily, dropping Frazier in the process. Its been done before but if these two were to fight, who takes it and how?
I take it you're talking prime for prime, ironchamp ? If yes,Frazier would stop Norton around six or seven rounds. Ken would start off pretty well, taking points off the often slow starting Frazier with a good jab. Joe's pressure would start to tell after three rounds, and would consistently back Norton up before administrating the ko. You may be talking about when they actually could have met. If so,that would have been between 1973 - 1976. Norton would n't have been ready beforehand. Before Frazier's fight with Muhammad Ali in Manilla,Joe would have won in the same way,and not taking much longer to do so,than he would in a prime for prime situation. After Manilla in '76,I would confidently favour Norton. Manilla having taken so much out of Frazier. Ken would have outpointed Joe in that case.
I would go against your dream and go with Frazier pushing Norton against the ropes, brutalizing him with body shots and eventually finishing him off with left hook after Norton's guard drops lower and lower.
I personally favor Joe as well.... Pity they never fought. The winner would've enhanced his legacy significantly. They used to spar? Who got the better of who?
Sure, in dreamland, Norton could be able to beat Frazier, but he would have to perform flawlessly at 101%, because he has zero margin for error. If miraclously Ken manages to survive Joe's brutal pressing, then he has a fighting chance. Nahhhh!.... who I am trying to fool here? Ken against Joe is dead meat in the real world, in dreamland, and in any alternate reality :yep
Yes, I too think Frazier would constantly pressure Norton and eventually stop him late, but like the man said, I think Kenny's chances are better against post-Manila Joe.
