I had a weird Dream: Frazier vs. Norton

Frazier prolly wins the decision, but what if Norton landed some real hard leather early on.?.? OOHH!

Thats what I recall reading about their sparring at the time, and how Joe dropped him on at least on occasion.

 

Frazier had a shot prime. Norton's prime lasted a bit longer. Pick a year, then I can pick a winner. Post Manilla, I think Norton would win. At their best, I would give the edge to Frazier, though Norton's power and skills could upset.

 

Norton admitted that Frazier knocked him out during their first sparring session. They were supposedly competitive after that, but that's just Norton's account.

 

norton doesn't even have great punching power really. so I don't think norton Would upset him early
I think Frazier would KO him late. too much power.

 

Norton had better power than any fighter Frazier beat. If Bonevvena could nearly stop Frazier, Norton who had much better speed and accuracy could do the same.

Although Norton never gets credit for it, he hurt Ali worse than Frazier ever did, breaking Ali's jaw, and busting him up with body shots. If the first Ali vs Norton fight had been 15 rounds, there is a chance Ali would have been stopped. Ali was in bad shape, and his corner was clearly concerned.

 

Bonavena was a bigger puncher than Norton.

 

Noooo way. Both Quarry and Bonavena arguably had more punching power then Kenny. Ali stated that Shavers hit him the hardest, that Liston stunned him badly with a long left, that Foreman had him seeing skeletons and snakes from a head shot, and that Frazier had him close to death from body shots in the third bout. A broken jaw from any punch is going to put the toughest fighter in a very bad way. Eddie Futch said of Kenny's punching power that he did not have one punch take out ability and if Kenny had the idea he did he would be in big trouble. Frazier hurt Ali way past the punches he took from Norton.
