I had an ominous feeling for Burns tonight

Thought JG was fantastic, but the 7th was almost like Kirkland Angulo Rd 1 where he put so much in to be caught with a couple of shots (obviously doing nowhere near the same damage) and after that he was ****ed. He had excellent foot and upper body movement up until that point and then suddenly just hit the wall. Could still avoid alot of punches but just wasn't getting out of range the same way. Even with an injured hand he was far enough ahead that he could have changed to lefty and ran for the last three and still won the fight. But he was gassed, think its inexperience rather than lack of heart persay. On my card would have finished a draw if he'd kept going as he was in the 8th and 9th or possibly Burns might have worn him down if he'd been able to step up and start landing a bit more.
It was a good fight and I think both are getting a wee bit to much stick from some folks.

Inexperience beat Gonzalez, who despite my reservations turned out a more than capable fighter than I first thought, fair play to Ricky, the way he came back into it was brilliant, I will be keeping an eye on Gonzo though, good fighter.

Gonzalez looked nothing like a gassed fighter, he looked like a hurt fighter. And since Burns wasn't hitting him, I'm going to take a wild guess and say it was his hand and disappointment.

You could see his demeanor change in the 8th round while he was looking for a way to get to the finish line. Tough to do without one of your hands against a guy with the conditioning of Burns.

Burns didn't take his heart at all. Burns didn't take anything but punches. A ****ing heavybag could have beaten Gonzalez once his wrist was injured.

Tonight Gonzalez was like one of those primadonna footballers who only feel they can perform when they are at 100% mentally and physically, if they have the tiniest of niggles, they'd rather "do a Di Canio" and plead with the manager to be substituted.

Gonzalez knew he was winning the fight. Ricky Burns knew Gonzalez was winning the fight. It obviously wasnt about winning the fight for Gonzalez, it was about winning it in the best way he can, at 100% for all 12 rounds. He was at 100% for 7-8, and you saw yourself how big the gap in quality was. He was way ahead.

One of them things. Weird ****ing fight. Could not believe it myself when it finished.

    Why? Why? Why?

I know how that trainer feels. He was pleading with him between that round. The decision was already made.

"Boss, Legs hurting, Wrists hurting, I'm going home and I can't even have a wank tonight either! ****!"

6-3 after 9 with 6-6 being a certainty if it went the distance, it didn't because Gonzalez never recovered from the 7th

    "He broke his heart"

You are kidding yourself if you honestly believe that. Eddie Hearn is saying this aswell like. (mind, he kind of has to)

What did Ricky Burns do to make Jose Gonzalez quit? Even in Ricky's best round in the 9th, he didnt hit Gonzalez with anything to make the "quit" understandable. Walking back to the corners for the 10th, there was no indication the fight wouldnt continue. Gonzalez sat in his stool and started thinking about the wrist, and that was it. He quit himself, not Ricky made him quit. Ricky upped the work rate and pressure, yes he did, he landed a bit more, yes he did, but he didnt hurt Gonzalez, in the same way like Gonzalez hurt Ricky. You lot are making out that this was Margarito putting a beating on Cotto and Cotto quitting (we all know about plaster gate - but I'm using it as an example)

People are also forgetting Ricky was busy from round 1 till 7, was Gonzalez heartbroken then?

Gonzalez broke his own heart if indeed a heart was broken tonight. He was injured and gave in, where some fighters would of continued. But he is obviously not Carl Froch. Obviously.

Clutching at straws with the "Ricky broke his heart stuff" though.

    How? Please explain, somebody.....

    :good

The "broke his heart" talk comes off as a desperate effort to justify avoiding a rematch.

You dont have a heart to break if you quit in that position

Burns exposed his lack of will

Burns will never get his just due, but that's cool. It will motivate him more and he will continue to be under-estimated. It's all about the victory, that's what separates Scotland and Scottish people from other nations, it doesn't matter how, just win.

Just watched the fight again since i was live at the arena, While watching it on sky IMO he hit Burns with his best shots realized Burns wasn't going to fold like the other guys he's faced and hit with those shots and when Ricky was coming back in the 8th and 9th he decided he'd had enough and in the arena at the time of the fight i said to my cousin who i was with "Gonzalez has slowed down this round" it was so noticeable than the round before it was unbelievable and i'm not fully buying injury excuses he's a switch hitter he could have fought southpaw for three rounds using the right hand to jab. Ricky maybe didn't dishearten him he disheartened himself coz he didn't take Ricky out with his big flurry.

I actually picked Gonzalez to knock him out, more often than not alot of these South American and Latino mandatories arnt that good but Gonzalez is the exception what ever posessed him to quit like that is beyond me.I like Ricky Burns alot but he's in no way the force people rate him as on this forum,If that was Adrien Broner in there with him last night the fight would not have gone past 6 rounds.
