I had no idea at the time that I was watching a future legend

I actually hyped David Price over Fury back in the day, and got irate when Manny Steward claimed Fury was the best young HW in the UK. It was Price, dammit!

    Shows what I know.

I would've gave it another 2 rounds and Pac would've stopped him, he was getting to him at the end. Big struggle though, and Sanchez was stupidly low at times !

Who would have imagined that Matthews and Crolla, after both fights, would then go on to fight at World Level, actually winning a World Title in the case of Crolla.

Even more so given that Matthews beat Crolla in 2012 with the rematch in 2013 a Draw.

Fair play to both, even if found out at the very highest level.

Im not so sure. Who knows? No doubt Pacquiao has been the better P4P fighter but he had his hands full in that fight

When Matthews was a FW, I thought it was very possible that he was going to the top as he was a big punching, strong massive FW when he started out. I never considered higher divisions

Good post and very good example.
Wladimirs career has sort of been made up of sections in that he was in the first section a big punching undefeated prospect who suffered a defeat, then he became a champion who wasnt the dominant champion with L Lewis around, lost as that champion and then came back won some tough fights, won a world title again and then unified several titles and became the dominant champion of his era. Very impressive

Clearly, David Price was going to rule the heavyweight division.

I thought Jose Luis Castillo was just some jobber when they put him in with Stevie Johnston.

I saw AJ early in the amateurs way before he was in the Olympics. I was there to see a mate box who stopped his opponent in 30 seconds so hung around to see the heavyweights. AJ walked in and the hall filled up and people around me were talking him up big time! ‘This is the bloke who’s supposed to be the next Frank Bruno apparently’ I heard someone say.
The guy AJ was fighting was some fat Asian guy who walked in with a huge entourage and giving it the big’un. First round fatty was loading up a huge leaping left hook constantly and AJ was just working out the right time to counter it. To be honest I thought AJ looked extremely slow, robotic and one dimensional and then in the 2nd round bang! He caught the fat guy with a body shot that made a big snapping sound and the fat guy was rolling around the ring in pain for a good 5 minutes.

Once I heard AJ was going to the olympics I thought he’d get found out and stopped but I was wrong

Not made it to the top yet but I remember watching Joshua Buatsi box at the Olympics and felt he was the real deal, time will tell how far he goes

Haye losing to Thompson-Maybe a legend in his mind only I guess

    A couple of current examples
I didn't expect Taguchi to go on and do what he did following his loss to Inoue. Not a legend but notable given how he went on to unify.

Srisaket when he beat Sato, was impressed but wouldn't have guessed he'd have been the one to bust Roman's cherry
