There is SUCH a strong bias to give the more highly rated fighter the round by default. I didn't score the rounds, but looking at the fight overall I thought Vargas won or you make it a draw, because it was fairly close. I thought Manny looked awful and couldn't find a way to get past Vargas' longer reach to be able to land consistently.
It's hard to make the argument for Vargas winning. His body language indicated that he was playing catch up all night, with Vargas's literal butt bouncing off the canvas in the 2nd round. That early knock down set the tone for the fight. Also towards the end of the fight there (I think in the last round IIRC) Pac-Man seemed to have another knock down but was ruled a slip. (not the one where Pac-Man pushed Vargas's back, which I was fine with being a slip, as their legs got tangled, but the one late in the fight where Vargas went down to a knee after a glancing punch) Vargas had a few moments throughout the fight, but he really didn't win that many rounds clearly. He really was outclassed by Pacquiao, which wasn't surprising. Then you factor in the knockown, and the two slips, the latter which probably should have been another knockown, and it's hard to give the fight to Vargas. I thought the 114-113 card was closer than it really was, you could certainly make the argument that it was that close by giving Vargas every benefit of the doubt, but really Pac was using a lot of in-and-out movement, getting in, landing a combo, then getting out. Vargas could only manage a few moments throughout the fight where he landed on Pacquiao. I actually thought Pacquiao looked somewhat rejuvenated, and very comfortable in the ring. I thought it was a competitive but clear UD for Pacquiao.
It's not that long ago before I joined this place as a member that I was in awe of the knowledge on this forum, instead now we these ridiculous troll posts or whatever they are. Seen the fight on you tube and whilst the larger guy in Vargas had his moments they were few and far between,Manny clearly won even without the flash knock down. It's easy to moan about corruption and poor judging in boxing but actually there's been some good sensible judging this year, two 50/50 fights in Thurman v Porter and Frampton v Cruz were both close but both correct in my view, off the top of my head the Badou Jack fight was a duffer.
Sometimes a fight, when looked at in its entirety is closer than the score. I agree with the score for the most part because Pac did a little more each round. It was closer than most expected considering Pac started as a 10-1 favorite, 5-1 at the fight.
Dude you didn't even try and troll. Please do better. Vargas lost comfortably and there is a reason Dave Moretti's card is highly criticized. He was more active and definitely won a few rounds. But anyone who had this fight closer than 116-111 should probably be checked for blindness. Pac landed the heavier shots, the better shots, more consistently, landed more in general, and controlled the pace of the fight. As someone stated, you could tell Vargas was playing catch up all night and could not hit Pac clean. He landed maybe 5-7 solid shots all night. Pac literally did what he wanted.
pac won the fight but score cards were way to wide. jessie won some rounds no doubt. jessie won a few rds in beginning of fight but he also got knocked down early pac deff won majority of the fight in the 2nd half i think jessie won the last rd. ill give jessie 4 maybe 5 rds. he did very well tho
