I hate it when fighters say "I won't fight him because we are good friends"

Most groups of lads are always trying to out-do each other at the best of times, and I've bashed up some of my mates at tackling practice and vice-versa :yep

 

****ing hell Rob, all i am saying is that if you are a relatively green pro, gaining experiance, then choose not to fight your mate. If you are going for anything for english/british or above, and looking at a good pay day, then it has to go out of the window.
I am not saying any fight means nothing, i am calling a fight meaningless in terms of the immediate gains, i.e. not winning a title

 

At the risk of getting philosophical, if its "every man for himself" then its up to the fighter where he chooses to draw the line who he fights as regards friends and family.

In the examples you used in the OP its not as if not fighting either Dodson or Fry are blocking Bellews career. If he chooses not to fight them, thats his call.

 

Relax Rob!! Boxers have always had meaningless fights, they call them "learning fights", "stay busy fights", "tune ups" etc....

They would have to be pretty spectacular mates not to fight. Sometimes mates put on the best bout.

Thompson and Melendez in MMA like each other but when they let the leather fly they do it like enemies. Awesome.
