my point is that when lewis fought tucker, lewis was pre-prime, he really came into his best when manny steward took over!!!!
we are talking about one fight, you tell me someone who has done the following things olympic gold medalist british champ commonwealth champ euro champ world champ lost 2 fights and then avenged them both even george foreman said that lewis is the best heavy ever, and i think he knows what he is talking about dont you
I will name them first, and then give you the reason behind it. Before I do, I'm not saying they would win 10/10 times, but I'am saying I would favor them more times than not over Lennox. Ali- Amazing footwork in his prime, good jab, extremely accurate puncher, great chin. I see a close match at first between the two, with Lennox having a slight edge in the points department after 8 or 9 rounds, though as Ali usually did in most fights, he saved the best for last or shall I say for the championship rounds. This is where I see him taking over behind the jab and will prove to be the fresher man down the stretch, and will punctuate the rounds quite nicely. Ali wins by 12 or 15 round UD. Holmes- Great footwork, steller jab, good chin. This would be a pretty boring, but close match throughout, I really do believe Holmes footwork will be the difference in this one, I see Lewis missing alot of his attempts to land the striaght right early on, leaving him a bit tired by the second half of the fight, by this time Holmes would be able to time him quite well and effectively, clear cut win for Holmes 12 or 15 UD. Tyson- devastating power, great handspeed, great chin, great upper body movement. I see Tyson coming on strong early, in attempt to make a statement of sorts. Lewis would weather the storm in the first round, but would also taste some of Tyson's power as well. The second round you will start to see Lewis establish his jab more, and attempt to keep Tyson at a workable distance, but still is quite worried of Tysons power. By the 3rd round Tyson starts to come on strong, instead of throwing punches wildly in the first round, he's now throwing combinations to the body and then the head. I feel Lewis would get caught in this round when he tries to go toe to toe with Tyson, big mistake, unlike Bruno, Tyson has a better chin and can counter Lewis right alot better. Tyson by 3rd round KO. I also believe Dempsey, Old Foreman, and Holyfield would of beat him. I feel Dempsey would win based on his aggressive, high powered style, something Lewis proved a little shaky at handling. His chin would be tested against Dempsey heavily, not sure if it would hold up. Foreman- I think Foreman would take 10 to give one against the superior boxer in Lewis. I see Lewis becoming comfortable in his match against George, and by the 7th round he will get cocky and make a mistake, something we seen him do in a lesser fighter against Rahman and even Mccall, where he dropped his hands and was dropped by single right hand from both men, George is very capable of landing that sneaky right hand, I perdict late round knockout for George. Holyfield I would make a slight favorite, he fought Lewis in 99, 6 years removed from his prime, and on my scorecards I had it a draw in there second fight, where alot of the rounds were close. I see Holyfield having a war with Lennox, where both men would get hurt and stunned, but in the end the speed and toughness of Holyfield would prevail IMO, close 12 round win for Holyfield.
It's very difficult for many historians to acknowledge the possibility that fighters from the modern era can compete with the ATG's of yesteryear. The historians become, in essence, guardians of the past and will do anything to keep the achievements of past fighters alive even if it means doing something absurd like keeping a Lennox Lewis out of their top-15 list of ATG heavyweights.
I hear what your saying and I agree with you for the most part, but some posters here have not watched or grew up in the era of Jack Johnson or Jack Demsey, or even Joe Louis for that matter. While boxing historians may be a little stuburn about putting modern day fighters in such high regard or along side some of the greats, but you also must admit putting Lewis at 1 H2H is little crazy dont you think?
Yes. I agree with you and out of curiousity, I would like to know which fighters you have beating Lewis.
Ali was the greatest but Lewis may have been the best. Big fast and smart when he was in the game. If he wasn't challenged he got careless. I believe that he had a lot of heart. Vitali Klitschko, Lewis fought for his life. Rahman just got lucky and snuck on him.
I agree that it is a fair assessment. But I have no fondness for fantasy warfare. Nobody can prove a thing.
I had a post with the list of fighters and reasons why I had them beating Lewis. Here's what I came up with,(old) Foreman, Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Dempsey, and Holyfield barely. I wish I seen more of Dempsey and his matches, but from what I seen he looks like a tough styles match for Lewis.
Yeah I just saw the post now. I didn't see it at first cuz I took your quote about historians from the other page. You made very good points.
Thanks man, I could of went into more detail, but I think I got most of my points across ok. Lewis is a great Heavyweight, no doubt. Over the last couple years I really changed my mind about him, the man was a warrior in his own right. The man took alot heavy shots from Bruno and Mercer and stayed on his feet to beat both men, as well as taken a extremely powerful early round knockout artist in Briggs, best shot, then proceeded to finish him off a couple rounds later with his own assualt. Lewis is a top 10 ATG heavyweight, but I have a hard time putting him in the top 5, but thats just my opinion though.
I think some of you guys are more confident on a Bowe win than Bowe himself. Lewis is arguably the best, one of the top 5. Larry Holmes is the one I'd give the best shot, probably slightly favored. Tyson has a pretty good shot as well.
