I have a gut feeling that Smith will upset Beterbiev and win

Stylistically, i feel that Beterbiev is actually a good match up for Smith. He will come right at Smith and Smith wont hesitate for fireback with even more power. Smith isnt that great at fighting on the inside which is where Beterbiev will have lots of success but he'll have to move in on Smith to punish him up close. In mid range Smith will gladly swap hands with Beterbiev and his counterpunching abilities are underrated. In one of those mid-range exchanges, maybe round 6 or so, i feel Smith will be down on the cards but will hurt Beterbiev unexpectedly and force a stoppage

I might seem biased because i low-key want Smith to bring those belts to America, but after watching the Beterbiev/Johnson fight, Smith has a chance if he sticks to what he does best and slugs it out with Beterbiev.

The odds are in Beterbiev's favor, but I'll be rooting for Joe Smith Jr. In the end it doesn't matter who wins, Bivol definitely beats both and a win over Beterbiev would do a lot more than a second win over Smith so whoever wins, it's a win/win for me

Some people are picking Smith. Smith is a big puncher and has the power to hurt Artur. The problem for Smith against Bivol was he couldn't really land on Bivol because Bivol has such good defense and is so supremely skilled. Artur isn't as skilled or as defensively sound as Bivol. He's much easier to hit and land on than Bivol. Artur has been dropped before and if he gets dropped by Smith he might not get up.

I've had that gut feeling for years, so you're probably onto something.

Beterbiev in brutal KO. Smith's suspect defense will be exploited.

Clearly Beterbiev's power has been waning as of late. Fine, I get why the Gvozdyk match lasted 10 rounds, The Nail is tough as hell, and was outboxing him for the first half, he had to be very careful. But Deines and Browne going 10 and 9, that's questionable. There's no reason why Gasanov and Pascal were able to land far more devastating punches on either of them. Regardless, Beterbiev has been struggling to get sturdy opponents out of there lately. Now, add in that Joe Smith Jr's power may equal or surpass that of Beterbiev. He's tough as nails and in spite of having his goddamn jaw broken twice, has never gone down. He has the will of iron, and only struggles with excellent boxers with exemplary jabs and control of range, and even then with guys like Alvarez and Hart, improved enough to outwork both of them by a mile, and stop the latter for the first time in his career. Means Joe has gotten a lot better. Now... what was Joe's most memorable KO? It was against Fonfara. What was Fonfara doing when that happened? He was going for the kill, pressuring Joe, and got caught with a right hook from the pits of ****ing hell, that he walked right into. No one walks into Smith's power. Beterbiev can't help himself. This is anything BUT a safe bet.

A mildly annoyed Beterbiev sounds dangerous, an upset Beterbiev sounds scary.

I don't know why it took him a while to dispose of them. They didn't pose much of a danger to him.
Maybe Smith will last 9 or 10 too ;)

Exactly... that should be very troubling to Artur backers. Considering Joe Smith Jr. poses a huge danger to him. Is 9 or 10 rounds of Joe Smith Jr. landing bombs on someone a good thing to allow happen?

We'll see what happens and who's right in this case.
    I can't see past a Beterbiev KO.

The only people who have done real damage to Beterbiev, i Callum Johnson who dropped him with a left hook, and Nikitayev, who badly stunned him with headgear, with a left hook to the temple. Joe Smith Jr. just loves throing left hooks to the temple.

I already bet Smith a couple of weeks ago at +750. He's live here. I think he wins this. Beterbiev is old, had a lot of bad injuries which diminished his ability to throw punches so he clearly lost some of his thudding power and he was hurt and dropped before by big punchers - and that's what Joe Smith Jr is - one of the biggest punchers P4P. I think if Smith shows up in great shape and with the right mindset he can outbox Artur and he can hurt him too. Smith' boxing is actually underrated. People still see the left hook heavy brawler but he's much more than that. He improved a lot and ya he's still a bit limited and crude and he'll never be a slick boxer but his ability to win fights isn't just to one punch people with the death touch, he can also win rounds with the jab.

The reason Artur's opponents have lasted longer is because he has started slower, having confidence in his power and becoming more conservative. I would be very surprised if AB doesn't stop JS. But he is 37 now, 5 years older than Smith.

Unquentionably Smith has had some good moments, but he remains a largely-uneducated slugger.

Smith definitely has power and we know that Beterbiev is a slow-starter who has a bit of a penchant for being caught with a big shot in the early rounds. So it is not itoo unlikely that Smith could floor Beterbiev in the first few rounds.

But if Gvozdyk couldn't finish Artur early, I don't see Smith doing it.

Once Artur wakes up - Smith is in big trouble.

Smith is really poor at properly managing the distance between himself and his opponent. We saw that with Sullivan Berrera and more recently with Maxim Vlasov (who I thought should have been given a wide UD win over Smith). And Smith tends to go on wild head-hunting expeditions that often leave him gassed.

These are particularly bad traits to have when your opponent is Beterbiev. You don't want to find Artur in your grill and he's perfectly capable of making you pay for missing.

Assuming Artur hasn't gotten old overnight (which IS a risk), I am picking Artur by TKO somewhere around Rds 5-7.
