I have a weird feeling that Roy is going to beat Calzaghe.

I believe RRJ will be in top form when he faces Joe.
Roy will outland, outwork, and outbox Joe in an exceptional manner. Calzaghe is an excellent boxer but i think RRJ is out to prove that he still has the great boxing ability that makes him stand out from the rest.
A past his prime RRJ i believe still has the agility, speed, power and great counter punching ability to give Calzaghe Major problems.

This is the same guy that got outworked by Antonio Tarver...there is no way that he beats Joe Calzaghe.

you're going to see a carbon copy of the Glen Johnson fight...mark my words!!

Why weird is that? I mean after all, as you can read above my avatar, this the the year of the oldboys... why can't Roy pull it off? Hard to actually pick him, but as before the Hopkins fight, I more and more think that this will be a very competitive and 2-sided fight... and truly exciting to watch.

Roy Jones was a modern marvel. A fantastic fighter at any era in boxing. Fantastic fighter, even better reflexes. Roy used his exceptionally quick hands and feet to judge space and distances better than any fighter in years. Those reflexes have faded at a dramatic rate. Reflex fighters don't turn back the clock. Roy still has fast hands and solid power but his footwork is now average and his stamina is moderate at best. He has success with countering off the ropes and can still control a fight at the center of the ring. He can still be a succesful fighter against Prince Badi and Anthony Hanshaw, and a faded Trinidad but not against Joe Calzaghe. Joe will force the pace and use superior punching angles to catch Jones in the center of the ring. Joe takes away Roy's jab by keeping his outside foot outside of Roy's and jabbing over the top of RJJ's jab. Joe will force Roy to the ropes in the second half of the fight and finish him off.

I can't say I disagree. I got a feeling Joe is going to lose. I wasn't all that worried about the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight, and thought Calzaghe would win, but I'm not so sure in this one. Roy still has quality speed, and is a good counter-puncher; Jones has that quick straight-right (Nard gave Calzaghe some trouble with it in their fight, and RJJ is much faster with his right hand) that could do some damage on Calzaghe. Whilst Bernard is better at timing his shots, RJJ has faster hand speed; even at this stage in the game, I think Jones' hand speed is equal to, or even greater than Calzaghe's hand speed.

RJJ imo has the speed and power to catch Calzaghe cleanly, often, and early in the fight. The only way I see Calzaghe winning is getting past the first 6 rounds, and REALLY hustling/working down the stretch for the decision.

If Joe Calzaghe is off for a second, or looks past this fight, or if he isn't 100 percent amped, and fights with emotion, he will lose. I don't buy into the **** saying Jones will be a push over. Jones is a competitive guy, and knows how good Calzaghe is; I think he will show up in top shape and completely focused. He might even be more hungry than he's ever been = dangerous.

BTW, I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong. :good

Roy sounded more fired up for a fight than he ever has Saturday night.

It made me question how easily Joe will be able to walk through him.

At the moment nothing in boxing would make me happier than for Roy to win. I have stated many times that Roy is shot to ****, but I said the same thing about BHop.

jones has to understand he is the bigger puncher. all that backing up **** has to stop. and he can afford to take chances against calzaghe because calzaghe is not a big puncher at all. but if jones just backs up on the ropes, calzaghe will slap him to death. if he can effecitvely counter punch and move around, he can wind up beating calzaghe.

Anybody that thinks Roy Jones is going to outwork Joe Calzaghe during their fight is sadly mistaken. Roy could still win the fight, but if he does, it will not be because he outworked Joe or threw more punches. That's not going to happen, and Roy would probably tell you that himself.

Wouldn't Jones winning (or producing anykind of performance) shred the last remaining tatters of your credibility, considering your full time posting barrage on how Calzaghe was ducking the beast Pavlik to take on shot Jones?

Though I guess it doesn't really make much difference at this stage...

Roys only chance is a knockout and he cant even knockout welterweights nowadays. I like RJJ, a proper boxing great - but he has no chance here against Joe.

Look, Calzaghe showed poor form by avoiding the Pavlik fight. It was a live fight that should have been made! The fact that ATG Hopkins beat Pavlik still doesnt hide the fact that Joe took what he saw, and everyone saw - as an easy option in fighting a shot old man instead. Lets just hope such a cheap move doesn't come back to bite him aye.
