I have always thought that Vitali would have come back and beaten Lewis

If the ref had not stopped the fight.

    What do you think?

I think he would have died from blood loss in the 10th round. the doctor and ref thought it was a good idea to stop the fite, because they were looking out for vatali, that truly was the worst cut iv'e seen in boxing.

having that cut on the face is bad enough, but imagine one of the greatest heavy weights of that decade punching you on top of that, that can end up ruining you, at least vitali lived to fight another day.

I thought Vitali was badly hurt and holding on for dear life. Lewis was shattered but i think he would have had enuff to take Vitali out. This subject has been done to death tho, Lewis won fair and square he was loosing the boxing match but won the fight

I did not, i thought he was taking more and more clean shots every round, he took some brutal uppercuts in the 6th and obviously his face wasn't going to get any better. He stunned Lewis a few times, but overall i thought he took the worst of the punishment over the 6 rounds they fought.
Of course LL looked kinda exhuasted after the 6th, but he had all the experience in the world and would've probably soldiered his way through it and i think he would have stopped Klitschko in the second half of the fight.

i think i agree with all of you. i don't honestly believe that Vitali would have won. its was more of a pisstake. Lewis was landing heavy and hard shots, Klitschko literally had to hold on to Lewis just to stay upright at the end of the sixth. Lewis was on his way to a clean KO I think.

Possibly, Lewis was exhausted and he was very close to being stopped in the second round only for him holding onto Vitali, but I think the doctor was right to stop the fight when he did, no world title is worth being blinded for.

If the rematch had of gone ahead as planned I'd go for Vitali by stoppage, Lewis would have been around 38 at this stage and Vitali would have had more time to train this time around.

Prime vs. Prime with both in shape, I'd say it could go either way.

Prime for prime, I'd certainly pick Lewis, without hesitation.

I think Lewis would have won the fight regardless. It would have been close; but Lewis would have won.

Its irrelevant, he was stopped because he incurred too much damage, every bit as legit as a KO.

Even if the fight went on, that cut would only get worse and cause a stoppage later, for this to work you have to erase the cut from reality.

We can never know what would have happened but I also believe that Vitali would have come through and beat him all though prime for prime it is of course Lewis.

Personally, I think he would have won the rematch also. He was winning the first fight at the time it had been stopped it's just that nasty cut was too much.

Nobody was ducking anybody. Lewis took an honest look at his career after the fight and decided he didn't have the motivation to carry on. It was fairly obvious really, with taking a year out after the Tyson fight and coming in well over his best weight for the Vitali fight. It was a logical decision, go out on top and a winner with his senses intact and let the younger guys fight over the title.

If the ref did not stopped the fight Vitali could have had a brain damage in the succeeding rounds. :D

The ref had no option but to stop the fight. If the fight was allowed to continue, Lewis would have mercilessly attacked that cut and Vitali would have suffered permanent damage. Lewis would have knocked him out anyway, he was clearly turning the tide in the sixth.
