I have stated on NUMEROUS occasions that I think Pavlik-Kessler is a 50-50 fight, with the two fighters being very similar. After watching Kessler-Sartison I truly feel that Pavlik would win by decision or possibly TKO in the mid-late rounds. Kessler doesn't seem to have as much power as he had against Beyer and Andrade. His Jab looks pretty average and he doesn't seem to connect very cleanly with his right. He also leaves himself open when he throws his left hook. Sartison didn't really have a hard time connecting on Kessler and his defense seemed spotty.

To sum it up, the Kessler that beat Sartison loses to the Pavlik that fought Lockett.

My point exactly I made a thread on this very subject but the average idiot wasnt sophisticated enough to assume the proposition and understand where I was coming form, however you seem to have cracked the code.

How about looking at Pavliks performance as well. And he didn't just come back after a hand surgery. Pavlik was getting tagged more often against a much lesser fighter.

I bet Sartison would go life and death with Pavlik....

And Kessler and Pavlik similar? Holy moses... Pavliks D is non-exisitant. And he is a sloppy puncher.

To be fair, the Kessler that fought Beyer would have a much better shot at the Pavlik that fought Lenord Pierre (these two fights being about the same time) but Pavlik has improved quite a bit and Kessler seems less effective.

Because Kessler was head and shoulders above Pavlik at that point. Now he is just head above Pavlik.

Pavlik defense is MUCH improved. He picks off punches with his gloves better than Kessler. That's why the 2nd Taylor fight wasn't that thrilling, because both mens defense had impoved. Also, his punches are very accurate and stiff. Against Sartison, Kessler missed a lot of punches and even the knockdowns weren't from the cleanest punches.

It should be noted that however i picked Calzaghe to beat Kessler, I have always regarded Kessler very highly. And I also think Calzaghe would beat Pavlik, so this analysis does not come from an unbridled Pavlik fanboy.

I'm not ready to make a prediction yet, but based on the last performances of each does not tell me much. If they both have a fight or two each before meeting would be a better indicator of where they are at. This was Kessler's first fight since losing, so the jury is still out as to the long term effects on his psyche, plus he has some back problems and then there's the hand injury.

I hear ya on these points, but doesn't it seem like Kessler should have been more impressive, knowing what potential fights he might be able to get? To follow up a respectable loss with a mediocre win isn't the way to get yourself back in the conversation. It just makes me wonder about the psyche. Down the road will be good to see, but right now "riding high" Pavlik beats "working his way back" Kessler.

Good points. Interesting you mentioned the riding high vs. working his way back. Not that Calzaghe was working his way back after lackluster Bika and Manfredo fights, but Kessler sure seemed to be flying way higher than Calz. up to their fight. I think Pav. vs Kessler would be a fantastic fight.

It may be improved, but it is nowhere near Kesslers. Kessler doesn't get hit often - he did get hit more often against Sartison, than he usually does, but nowhere near as often as Pavlik does. Kessler has also far better attributes than Pavlik.

Accuracy, ring generalship, intelligence, better jab by far, better chin. Furthermore he isn't sloppy at all. Pavlik seems to vary between being accurate and incredibly sloppy.

Kessler will tag him all night, and is a true and proven SMW. Pavlik didn't impress at 164.

Pavlik dosnt throw sloppy punches, he is very accurate and one of the best finishers in boxing??? How many Pavlik fights have u seen?

Kessler's jab is better than pavliks, are u crazy :think pretty much every single statement u made is biased, and shows ur just a kessler fanboy that is showing national pride but basically everything u said is untrue..

actually i like kessler but he definatly would not run through pavlik...

i think pav would beat him in a close decision...

i thought about this fight about a year ago before the kess-cal fight and i thought if pav and kess could stay undefeated that it would be the biggest fight in boxing by late 08
