Wilder got a taste of that Wlad left hook in sparring. A few times. That was a big part of the reason. Lol

Absolutely agree. AJ ducked Wilder. Fury coming off semi-retirement, drug and physo issues, and his third fight back stepping in the ring with Wilder. Massive stones.

I respect anyone stepping in the ring and Fury and Wilder have their respective qualities to admire.

I have more respect for Joshua at 28 not buckling under the massive pressure of being unified heavyweight champion and successfully defending his titles whilst maintaining an excellent physical condition and the mental and physical discipline required to be an elite athlete.

He also deserves respect for not repeatedly cherry picking and padding his record with a load of voluntary defences against journeymen or washed up shadows of their former selves who he could safely KO without seriously risking his belts.

So respect all round. But not in equal measure.

Irrevelant when discussing AJ/Wilder. Here is the facts from someone who is none objective - which is a rarity

    - Wilder ducked Klitschko - got smashed in sparring too
    - Wilder's had people take dives and been protected
    - Joshua has the better resume
    - It was very, shall we say, convenient that Povetkin failed a drugs test before the Wilder fight.
    - AJ is ducking Wilder

People see things in black in white. They choose the side of one fighter and stick to it on everything.

Both wilder and fury deserve respect for facing each other.
I just can not help to feel that this might be a career suicide.

This was Fury's ONLY shot at big money/title challenge. Joshua/Hearn are playing Mexican stand-off with Wilder/Finkel over negotiations and this was Wilder's chance at building his profile and giving himself extra leverage in the Joshua negotiations.

If Fury wins, Wilder will have the rematch and Joshua will be frozen out temporarily.

It's musical chairs between all 3 of them at the moment.

I have a funny feeling that Fury might end up coming out on top from it all

Then you should have mass respect for Molina, Duhaupas, Szpilka, Arreola, Washington, Stiverne and Ortiz fighting Wilder too.
Like Fury they're all just challengers looking for a titleshot and a (for them) massive payday, with not much to lose.

AJ's cleared out the HW division in 22 fights and unified the titles

Wilder has fought bums for 10 years and has been reluctant to face the top competition at every stage in his career. Remember those 5 voluntaries in a row without facing a top 10 guy?

Track records matter and the only one here with a proven history of avoiding fights is Wilder.

I'll be more than happy to credit both men enormously IF they get in the ring and have a fight that does the sport of boxing justice.
I'm a real cynic on this matter though....

It's a bold move by Fury no doubt but then look at his options. Who could Fury fight for a multi million pound payday?

Hearn has said Fury needs to beat a decent name first to maximise revenue. So the Joshua fight isn't happening soon.

Whyte? Only just proven himself a big draw vs Parker and while Hearn might see that as a fight for Fury to prove himself and earn a shot at Joshua, he won't make it until Joshua/Whyte 2 happens as that's a less risky yet still lucrative fight for Joshua and something Hearn has been working too for some time and will likely happen in April 2019.

Fact is it was Fury's best and really only option at the moment and let's be honest nobody is 100% sure Wilder/Fury even happens right now.
