I have my first amateur fight this Saturday, I was really uncertain and depressed about some things in my life lately but this should be a motivator for all the training I've done. I don't know what to expect for the fight though, I've had six sparring sessions so far, and I've learned to take shots, and I've gotten better at slipping punches and moving around. I tend to jab a lot and move around, I just need to keep my hands up and have my eyes open. I do feel a little sore going in though, in my neck muscles from sparring(feels like a whiplash type effect) and a little soreness on my head that seems minimal. I know I'm going to be very nervous and will probably have trouble sleeping the night before but all this training I've done has to work out for something, I think I'll be fighting someone with zero fights also.

Good luck man. Just try to remember your training and actually use the things you've been taught. Jabbing and moving around is good!

Alot of times guys first fights (and second and third...) they just go nuts and forget abou all the things they have learned. So if you can box a bit and the other guy is just going nus, you should be good.

wizard i hope for your sake you are fighting a raw novice, 6 spars is nowhere near enough for your first fight, your nerves are gonna be through the roof and your neck soreness is the result of getting your head snapped back by taking shots, its minor whiplash so make sure you dont stretch your neck this will only make the whiplash worse, wait for it to fully heal then build up the muscles in your neck

edit; try get a video for us, we can see if you have impoved

Try to control your nerves and remember that in your first 10 fights or so it doesn't really matter if you win or lose, just as long as you give it your all but at the same time if it's close make sure you dig deep because honestly there is no better feeling than the first time you win a fight.

At this novice stage I think the guy that usually wins is the one that chooses to box rather than brawl. Stick to your 1-2 and movement and you should come out on top.

I can't believe people are put into amateur fights after 6 spars. I would've thought 6 months to a years worth is more like it. I have my first fight tomorrow and have sparred regulary for 2 years, more often and with better boxers at my new gym for the last 6 months.

In my old gym we sparred every other week if you were lukcy, we did do lots of "tech" sparring though (light, conditioned spars). In my new gym it's 3 times a week.

6 Spars!?!?!?!? What a joke... I sparred 3 times a week for about 6 months until I even contemplated getting in the ring... Timing and learning triggers to gain reactions is about 70% of boxing... things you only learn through sparring. Fighting without knowing them is dangerous... surely!? *Shakes head and walks away*

6 spars that is a joke imo, ive spared about 8 times and my (crap) trainer who doesnt give a **** about anyone hes training wanted me to fight last week i said i wasnt ready. however he convinced a few other lads who hadnt spared or trained enough or even as much as me to fight and they got killed.

i have decided to leave the trainer iv just become disillusioned, i want to learn to box the right way, seems to be extremely difficult to find a good trainer.

the guy i used to always spar my weight had about 15 fights but only 4 on the card and won it easy. the tournament was for people with under 5 fights how big a joke is that?

yeah theres a serious lack of good and affordable trainers for guys who are over 18 and want to start boxing.. its like you are damaged goods. very hard.

i took things into my own hands and have been training hard for about 18 months getting training as and when I can afford it.

Be careful you don't get some idiot (s) who don't know **** teaching you all the wrong moves - this happened to me for 9 months and i'm furious... i could have been so much further if someone had just taugh me the basics properly.

It's been six regular sparring sessions, not just one round a piece, they'd go typically 2-3 rounds. And I did some defensive drills that wasn't exactly sparring but I would have punches thrown at me that I had to slip or get out of the way of. So I think the six sparring sessions is somewhat deceiving. My trainer also twice this week had a body punching suit on where he'd throw punches at us and we'd have to hit his body or his mitts that he held up. My trainer is a former pro and he said he wouldn't force anyone to fight, he just said he thinks I'm ready and feels comfortable with me in the ring. It's all about gaining experience I guess, I hope everything goes well for me this Saturday night.

Whatever you have to tell yourself. 6 spars isnt enough, I dont care if they where 10 rounds each. Well...maybe after 60 rounds a guy would be pretty much ready, a hell of alot closer than 12-18 rounds thats for sure.
