The guys you mentioned, apart from Marquez, have very good chins. In addition, Rafa Marquez took huge shots against Mark "too sharp" Johnson", Tim Austin, and Israel Vasquez. He went down clean against Vasquez in the second fight, but was ultimately stopped on his feet (many seen it as a debateale stoppage). Austin rocked Marquez badly, but couldn't put him away; Marquez fought back for the KO win. Khan's chin is ****ing terrible....thats the difference.
The real difference is that this is a pattern from Khan. It's not a one-off. He can't be allowed to pass it off as getting caught 'cold'. He's been down a number of times, amateur and pro. Cannot take a punch. Beyond dispute.
i agree about his punch resistance but there have been world champions with poor punch resitance. if he can improve on his defence he can be a champ.
I can't think of many world champs who were as bad as Kahn in that regard. He's been found to be chinny even fighting at a relatively low level.
He could tighten up his defence and keep on going for a while. But his lack of chin allied with shockingly bad reflexes means that he will always be found out at the highest level. In addition, judging by the Gomez fight, he can't take it to the body either. Thats too much of a weakness target for Khan to succeed. He could be Winky Wright and still get clobbered with that amount of body area to aim at. If Khan had the reflexes he could still conceivably succeed in the game, building his style around a reflex defence....thing is....he doesn't have the reflexes. Game Over.
You can still be successful with a glass chin though. Just look at Terry Norris. However when these type of fighters lose - its usually by violent knockout. Khan is a talented lad - and he still has his good looks - Prescott at least didnt mangle his pretty face too bad - so Khan can still come back.
You can't compare Norris to Kahn, in his prime Norris was only KO'd by Julian Jackson and Simon Brown. Norris didn't have a great chin but it was a damn sight better than Kahns.
hes only 21 atschatschatsch hes got plenty of years left in him, was better for him to get KO'ed now then get KO'ed later on in his career
Not when you get KO`ed in under a minute. This is the hurt game. In boxing YOU GET HURT. Khan cant take a punch at ALL. Thus his years in this game are VERY short.
Yep. Lets put this one down as a valuable learning experience. Now he's got it out of the way he can continue in his quest to rule the lightweight division. :nut
