There is a big difference between getting KO'd in a fight for an interalphabetty title and a world title fight - because at least you have reached the world level and been beaten by a genuine world class opponent. Perhaps Prescott will turn into Julian Jackson MKII, but a first minute demo job on Khan isn't in hindsight the best fight to judge him on. For me, unless Khan turns into Floyd Mayweather/Pernell Whitaker in the defence stakes he ain't going nowhere - not even top domestic level. 135lbs + stamina + power = Khan KTFO :deal
he will get KO'd later on in his career too. Lets remeber the likes of Naseem Hamed and Mike Tyson were very much at their peak at 21 years old. Khan could be nearing his peak now. There are no guarentees he will get better at 25 / 26 years old
that was after Benn had blown himself out and was going at any moment Khan he was caught cold to some degree - but his chin is glass - everyone knew it before the fight
Romanov would have destroyed Khan. Romanov is a solid box puncher who CAN bang with alot of authority. As a rookie he blazed a trail through some of Britains best light weights in Steve Murray and Bobby Vanzie and literally obliterated them both and the guy is still quite young. Its not for no small reason Romanov and Khan havent fought. Romanov and Thaxton are well known quantities. Warren tried to take another gamble with a colombian uknown and came up drastically short. Whats ironic is FW steered Hatton on this same path. He too had Hatton fighting for non descript titles against blown up feathers who couldnt punch. Only problem is Hatton turned pro in relative obscurity. Khan turned pro in a blaze of glory..
Come on, there's no question that his chin is bone china. You can't use one fight as conclusive evidence, but when you look at some of his other fight - particularly the Limond bout, in which he was as close to beaten as you can be without ultimately losing - the evidence is irrefutable. He has an atrocious chin.
do you think there is any hope for khan as a top fighter in the lightweight division? could he still make it as a world champion now, or did you never expect it in the first place? personally i think its tough to come back from and still be at the top of your game, the knockout will be on his mind and i cant see him being the same fighter, that with the fact that he cant take a punch
Highly unlikely. Khan knows in his heart his chin is bad despite what he may say. Plus mentally this will certainly be at the forefront all the time. His been hurt by non punchers. His been knocked down by non punchers and now knocked out by a puncher. Any of the top lightweights would obliterate him in under 5 rounds purely because his fairly easy to hit and can be hurt quite easily. The kid is simply too fragile. In a sport like this that means retirement.
The danger signs were there with Khan but it was still shocking to see him get exposed in such a ruthless manner last night. I genuinely don't like to see any british boxer suffer a humiliating defeat like that.
