I have never seen a case like Roy Jones Jr. Was it mental?

Chris Eubank could not have won a HW belt, then drop back to LHW and win the title back in his very next fight.. Fact.:deal Hell, he couldn't even win a CW belt, let alone drop back down to LHW and win it.

You would recover from 18lbs in 36 hours? And compete agaisnt the best fighters in the world? Let me know when you try it. Until then, I will put more stock into what the man that actually experienced it has to say.

Yeah it only took 15 years, 51 fights and five divisions for his chin to be exposed

He was also in his mid 30's by then, went from 154-160-168-175-HW-175.. Got belts in 4 of those weights, almost unprecedented... Chances are, it had more to do with a physical decline than anything else. There were alot of miles on Roy's body at that point. I am sure you would have recovered better though.

What do you mean who cares what Merk said? He's been with him for 20 years.

For an average camp, Roy used to come in around 190, and he was a little fleshy. He then used to lose a little fat, before he went down to 175 for the weigh in.

If you're telling me that Roy went to Mackie at 192 and he was very lean, then he must have trained hard before Mackie came on board. His walking around weight was always around that figure, and he wasn't normally that lean.

I know he didn't lose pure muscle to get to 175, and the weight loss is exaggerated. But he still burnt away a few pounds of muscle, and he'd never had to do that before.

    I appreciate what you're saying.

Again, for an average camp, Roy came in at around 190, with body fat to lose.

Against Tarver, he was 193-200 with hardly any fat, so although he may have only weighed a few pounds more than normal, his physique was very different, and it was harder to hit 175. Instead of losing fat, he had to lose a little muscle. Again, it was exaggerated, I agree. But again, he'd never been in that situation, and burning muscle fibres at 35 in a hurry isn't a good idea.

His camp was much much tougher than normal, that's the only point I'm trying to get across. Nobody can say "Oh it was only 5 pounds of muscle, it was nothing." Just a couple of pounds of muscle can be hugely significant to a fighter.

So I think it was exaggerated, but it was also overlooked too. Even if he was 193, he was a solid 193, getting down to 175 for the weigh in. I know about water weight, and him rehydrating etc, but it was a significant loss at that stage of his career. Mackie helped build him up, but he got no advice on coming back down.

    Thanks for your reply.

    general zod,

According to Hauser it was 196 without the clothes.

I've also heard Murad's take on it, and I've heard Shelly say that a contractual dispute with Showtime was the cause. We discussed this a few months ago.

It was 196 minus the clothes according to Hauser, and that was a solid 196 with hardly any fat.

You can't just say ALL he cut, as though it was nothing. He'd never cut muscle before.

We know this. But it was still the hardest camp he'd ever had, and it took a toll on his body.

He put is body through a lot in 2003, and did something to it that he'd never done before.

We've all seen Scully's comments on here regarding what happened with Dawson.
