I think he won rounds 2 and 5. Round 6 was very close that coulda gone either way.

I've been arguing valiantly to no avail that roy has a CASE for winning 4 rounds in this fight. I thought he won 3. People who say it was a whitwash through the first 7 rounds are delusional IMO.

Yeah. Well, based on my scoring of four rounds in roy's favor, that gives him 5 points because rd 1 was a 10-8 round!! I know that sounds crazy, but I honestly don't think calzaghe's punches were the cleaner, more effective shots in the first half of the fight. It's like sturm/DLH. Do you favor the output of oscar's shots landing on sturm's gloves, or do you favor Sturm's more infrequent, more solid counters? Roy's swelling and cut certainly made the fight seem more lopsided than it really was.

Anyways, I feel a lot better after having finally watched the fight. There is no question Joe won the fight, but it wasn't a blowout by any stretch. Prime Roy would have done a number on Joe, that's for sure.

For those of you saying Roy proved "something" in the fight, that it was closer than some think, that he doesn't have a Glass Jaw afterall, etc: You are missing the crucial FACT that Joe CHOSE to let Roy keep some pride and survive the fight. If you Tivo'ed the fight watch round eleven and *especially* the final round. In the 12th, you can see very, very clearly that Joe carried Roy through the round. In fact, Roy couldnt' even keep up on the "carrying" as Joe leaned in against Roy on the ropes, hoping Roy would tie hime up, but Roy didn't even have the energy to do that! So Joe throw a few body combinations, hitting Roy's arms at about 10% of his power and danced around a little, Roy never moving from the ropes. Joe could have killed the guy if he'd wanted to.

Rico Spadafora Pwned everyone on this thread.

Yes it was very easy to score. Thats why all 3 qualified judges had the same score as this qualified judge and without a doubt, other qualified judges watching.

If you think anything else, please realize you don't know as much as you think you know

The only thing Jones can be given credit for in this fight is standing in there and taking a beating. I honestly don't see how you can suggest this fight was competitive.

I think RJJ won rounds 1 and 2...... 5 and 6 were close and could've gone either way.

So does this mean Roy "only" looses a 115-113 scorecard instead?

    Crap fight, one sided drubbing.

Good name for the resume is all it is.

A few more threads like this and pretty soon Roy will have won the fight. Does Thorazine come at a bulk rate?

come on, now. No one is ever going to say Roy won the fight. My point is merely that it was fairly competitive for the first half and Roy did land some clean shots.

That being said, he is but a fraction of his faded self and needs to retire.

I watched the fight again and I give rounds 1 and maybe 2 to Roy. Other than that it was a whitewash. Nothing against Roy. I like him. But one good uppercut doesn't win a round.

Roy tried his best. Yes, he's not the same as he once was. No, we can't say with absolute certainty that old Roy would have beaten Calzaghe. (Well, you can, but it's make pretend, feel better thinking). Take it for what it is.

Please..........when its anywhere near competitive, judges usually find a couple of pity rounds to give out.

I dont agree with this, but judges rarely give out consecutive rounds in a fight to the same fighter when its being fought competitively.

This fight was so one sided that two of the judges gave Jones just the 1st round, and the third judge just gave him one additional round, the 2nd!

Please, to say Jones won 4 rounds in this fight, is to give have pity on him and pick the next 2 or 3 rounds in the fight that were'nt as dominating for Calzaghe as the others.

Even with Calzaghe taking his foot off the accelerator in the last couple of rounds, Jones was simply dominated, its just that simple!
