I like Jeff, always have and he is rarely in a dull fight. But it is clear he is on the way out, and I think he should retire. He is to popular to avoid getting matched up with guys who could seriously hurt him. I dont think he can fight 8 rounders in obscurity and I wouldnt want to see him do that anyway.
That's exactly what happened. He looked good the first 4-5 rounds or so. I don't think he's "shot" like some are saying, he just has some serious stamina problems.
But thats one sign that he could be slipping. An inability to go the same amount of rounds you had previously been able to. Jeff has never been a reflex fighter, so you wouldnt notice someone going if it wasnt there in the first place. But it seems his defense is non-existent now, it was never great but I dont think he sees punches coming like he used to either. I let the Manfredo fight slide because he had been out for some time, but he has argueably taken a step back in opposition this fight and looked even worse. Im just saying on the slide or not, he is not ready to test the waters against anyone better, that could end in tears.
i dont think he looked worse than in the Manfredo fight. I dont think he is done i just think he got gassed. He was looking good for the first 5 he survived the 2nd and was good till he got tired.
He seemingly will be in a pretty bad way if he follows through with the fight against Taylor in November.
I don't believe Lacy should hang it up. He's still useful and somewhat of an entertaining slugger, howerver I don't see Lacy holding any of the three main belts. From now on Lacy fights rotten tomatos and C level fighters.
He just needs a serious confidence building programme, ie knock out some complete cans and slowly build up. A shot at the big time in Taylor could completely finish him, on the other hand he might benefit from it.
I'll admit Lacy didn't look very sharp at all tonight.. (96-95 Lacy) But the guy is defo not washed up, Although he looked in great shape (muscle wise) His stamina need's alot of improvement. (Prop's to Mendoza tho, he Landed and took some Bombs) I say another ESPN fight ,Then a showdown with fellow crossroader Taylor. Now that's a fight I would pay to see.
My opinion is that he's shot. He looked affected even during the interview before the fight. He's in great shape, yeah so what, so is Meldrick Taylor. Lacy's sharpness and overall timing is gone. It wasn't just stamina, it was that his skills have eroded. If he's in with top guys, he could get hurt.
