I hope Katsidis has a game plan because it sounds like he has not studied Mitchell much from this interview. I dont get why fighters dont watch footage of the opponents i really dont, its almost as though they are scared to watch the footage because it might ebb away at their confidence to see the realization of task infront of them, i hear all the excuses of why people dont watch footage but i still dont buy into it, IMO if you watch footage of a particularly fighter there are many things you can pick up, bad habits, the personality of the fighter etc. 13.12 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRNjYrwhBRU[/ame]
Lots of things, like how Mitchell holds his hands, meaning what punches can be effective getting through his guard, where he distributes his weight when throwing punches or after, and tendencies/habbits.
Not saying he should change the way he fights but he should study Mitchell's movements and habits to get a grasp of punches that he can be effective with.
Agreed :good I do find it strange when fighters (at the top level) choose not to do this and take every possible advantage into the ring. The slightest movement can make all the difference. Although with Katsidis it's not all that technical. Effective yes.
Yeah, it's crazy when they don't study tapes... surely you want every advantage!! Do you reckon he is lying? and that he has actually studied mitchell thoroughly?
No I just think he only fights one way and wouldn't change whoever the opponent. No matter how much he does or doesn't watch of them. I think he may be taking Mitchell a bit lightly. I think he feels he will be to strong for him.
I imagine some fighters that say they never watch tapes of future opponents are lying. The others probably just have confidence in their trainer to watch the tapes and devise a suitable game plan. It is silly though. See for yourself what you are up against.
Yeah i think he is making a mistake, he did seem a bit cocky and overconfident in that interview, or was that just me?
Definitely seems that way. I think he may be right in a way. If Mitchell fights Katsidis fight (toe to toe) I think he will lose. I think he will try it for the first 3 or 4 rounds and realise he can't win that way. He will then box him from the outside and pick him off for a close but UD (or maybe late rounds stoppage on cuts). He may even have to get off the floor early to win.
I absolutely don't buy it. Most fighters are boxing fans anyway and so will have some knowledge of their opponent without even trying. But to go into a situation where it could make or break your career and potentially end your life without studying your opponent would be so ridiculous its untrue. Which it is. It's just an attempt at psychological warfare, to get inside their opponent's heads.
Yeah he is in for a big shock imo, Mitchell is going to decision him imo. I see the reverse myself, can see Mitchell Boxing early and standing his ground late, particularly if he is winning handedly and is roared on by the ground to stamp his authority on proceedings in the later rounds, close the show etc.
