I've listened to it several times and I've made it out as the following: It sorta reminds me of something I read in Four Kings where it mentions that Tommy Hearns had someone who tutoured him on how to speak in public and as a result started every answer with the words, "Well basically" instead of "Mother****er".
Right before the minute mark of that clip, William say's "I was'nt going to box him or nothing." .......got got give Williams props for the Warrior he is, but it showed that his mindset was that he was going to war the whole fight. .......he's going to be much more difficult to beat when he relents some on that mentality.
You're "tight" with a guy who got knocked down twice with 1 punch... not exactly sure that I would be bragging about that. :think
Williams fights for the fans. He wants to put on a show. He would rather stand toe to toe than dance and peck his way to a boring decision with no drama and people leaving before the final bell. But he has to learn that he can box at certain points, the fans do occassionally enjoy a good outclassing of an opponent. Hopkins/Pavlik comes to mind
I am glad this happened to him. Maybe now he'll realize that he needs to work more on improving his boxing ability then just mixing it up all the time. Don't get me wrong, I like a good slugfest. But I hate seeing a fighter, blessed with great physical gifts, not show growth. Paul Williams is turning into another Jermaine Taylor IMO.
Tommy Hearns was'nt boring and his offensive sucess was as entertaining as it comes......and it was predicated on him establishing the jab to make room to unleach power...... Williams goes right in two fisted and is unleaching hooks from a distance that benefits his opponent. Establish distance, then unleach power.
I really hope the guy is ok (like it seems) but I also hope he shuts-tfu about saying nobody wants to fight him & that he's so feared, never been truth... actually the opposite may be the truth... at least a couple of times already he's fought guys with little notice that have soundly beaten him... we just saw what a guy like SM did to him with a regular training camp!!!
