Who the f... do you think you are. People should be ashamed of themselfes!! - cherring for Holy!! One thing is maybe that he did'nt deserve the titel shot. But the choice to fight is his and only HIS. UNDERSTAND that. Because other people don't have the same oppinion that you - does'nt make it WRONG. You think you should be dictating me or others if we should cher for holy - forget it. It mights works manipulating with your wife - but not here pall - weak the f... up....
So if someone didn't have a problem watching a ******ed kid glove up & step into the ring, I can't criticize them for having poor taste & being sadistic? I can't advocate that the ******ed kid not be allowed to fight b/c it's his choice? You do realize you sound like a schmuck, right? This has nothing to do w/ whether or not I like a fighter. It has everything to do w/ stopping someone who isn't physically or mentally sound enough to continue to put his body through the rigors of boxing w/o further reducing him to a shell of a man. If you think that people who are looking out for his best interest by telling him to retire are somehow doing him a disservice, it's b/c you are probably ******ed. There comes a time where viable health concerns outweigh someone's deluded sense of pride. Holyfield has almost a 0% chance of ever accomplishing what he wants. He doesn't have the 1 punch KO to end the fight early, he doesn't have the stamina to win a points decision, and he doesn't have the defense anymore to stop himself from getting battered across the ring. All he's doing is guaranteeing by pursing this fool's errand is that he'll be a poster child for retiring before it's too late. I'd love to hear what your reasons are for rooting Holyfield on. And I'd love to hear how you'd defend those reasons if, God forbid, he were to die in the ring or suffer such a serious beating that he's one step above Gerald McClellan. Would you be chipping in for his medical bills, or would you wipe your hands clean and say "He fought 1 fight too many?" I thought so...
Don't compare Holy's situation with a ******ed Child. It is not comparable. Kids or ******ed people are a complete different thing. OK. I hope you already know. Holy is a grown up man and can make his own decisions - completely. So it should be. What he will do with his live is his responsibility and his right as a human. If holy wants to drink 40 bears a day - its his desicion. I guess that would be more dangerous to his health than boxing at an age of 44 years. Anyway - did Sultan beat Holy up - NO - he won a boring decision mostly hiding from holy. Sultan is the WBO champ and only wins a (small) decision to a 44 year old very well in shape boxer. Was he taking a hell of a beating - NO - was he out boxed - NO - he actually did pretty well of an old guy. Okay - Holy is only 50% the fighter he was - and so what - he still doing quit fine. Don't expect the old holy to reach near his prime skills - it is not possible - by heart he probably also knows it himself. But why the hell stop doing things that you enjoy and is good at (hes still a top #20 hw at least). He passes his psycical tests and is in good shape - so why stop if he don't want too. If he was taking a hell of a bloody beating every single fight and was KO'ed then he would sure stop boxing (I guess). But that is NOT the case - it actually went pretty well against the WBO champ. OK - he did'nt win but he was in the fight all 12 rounds with a fair chance. That is what is so fascinating about it and that's why I like holy, he goes after the goal even if the chances are small. A lot of 1 class fighters cares to much about their 0 - and that is a pain in the ass - because we often don't get the best fights because they are avoiding each other. Holy has never avoided anyone - thats something to admire. He has fought the best of the best during his career. If holy had won the WBO belt this saturday, he would have taken an unification fight with wlad before this year ended. His chances today would be very small against wlad but holy would see it as a big challange to him - and try with all his got. If the good lord himself spoke to holy 2 month before he should fight wlad and told him that he only had 1% of a chance beating him - he would'nt cancel the fight or find a way to get out of the fight - he would stay to the 1% knowing it is possible - and fight like never before to win. I believe that one of the reasons that holy keeps fighting is that he knows the HW scene is pretty weak today - and that it is not completely unrealistic (with some luck) to become 5 time HW champ. Thats why he keeps trying. He sure knows that his not near at the same level as in his prime days - but he actually still has a chance to get a belt. He knows he has a chance and it was proven against Sultan. Thats why holy said after the fight that he did'nt want to retire. Maybe he was actually himself a little surprised that sultan was'nt able to do more than he did. I personally had hoped for sultan to do some of his oldstyle boxing so the fight would have been an exeiting slugfight. But, why did'nt sultan change style during the fight and started a brawl!!! - because he would'nt take the risk - he felt that the old holy was still strong and he had to stick to the same gameplay as against Shannon - move and counter punch. Sultan could not just run holy down. The champ choose to run - and you are telling me/us that holy is laughable and we should be ashamed rooting for this old - brave - warrior. Makes no sense to me. Please stop all the talk about chipping to medical bills and cleaning hand if he dies in the ring. If the man is well trained and passes the psycical tests then he's ready to fight. I've been fighting myself as an amateur for 11 years and I would bet my ass of that an amateur that is about 30 years and in a relative bad training has fare bigger chances getting a brain damage (or what ever) that a well fit prof that is 44 years of age. So let it go plaese. You don't take the drivers licens from an old mann that is driving the car often and well, just because his chances of getting strangled by the airbag during a crash is bigger that at an average mann of age. :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb
It's too bad that Evander has deluded himself to the point that he actually believes that he can be the undisputed champ again. This once proud warrior is fast becoming a sorry laughingstock in the public eye. Sadly he will continue to fight and absorb beating after beating until he is universally denied a license to box (which is'nt likely) or he will be seriously injured and forced to retire with almost none of his mental faculties intact. People don't realize that looking good physically and actually being good are two entirely different things. Evander LOOKS good physically. He still has a muscular physique (possibly due to steroid use) but the real attributes necessary to become a top level fighter are no longer there. Speed, reflexes, the stamina to launch a sustained attack and a true KO punch are long gone. The human body is capable of only so much even with the aid of legal and illegal supplementation. Evander has simply fallen victim to the same slayer of past greats like Ali,Louis,Robinson et al....Father Time. It's a tough fact to face but Evander has to get real with himself and admit that he does'nt have it anymore. He began his pro career in 1984! 23 yrs ago!! Pac Man was the rage back then. Cell phones were a foot long and weighed 2 pounds for chrissakes to help put things in perspective. Evander is being utterly delusional and stubborn in his refusal to see the obvious and he will pay a heavy price if he does'nt wise up soon.
Where are all the ****in idiots who swore up and down and "had a feeling" Holyfield could win this. LOL.
Why can't people stop the hatin' on Holy? For all that he had done IN the ring, he should at least deserve the respect of these phony-assed "fans" who hides in the mask of false sympathy...
So. Based on Saturday night last, what is it that he's going to continue ? He's no longer competitive. He wouldn't be competitive against any top 10 boxer from light heavy, cruiser or heavywt, regardless of what wt either he or they came in at. It's doubtful he could get by Kessler or Calzaghe. To preserve what's left of his legacy (considerable), he should hang them up.
While my heart goes out to a warrior like Holyfield, a lot of you guys are missing the point -- this isn't just about him. If Evander gets killed or maimed in the ring, or ends up living on a streetcorner, it will give critics of boxing just more ammunition to outlaw or at least further marginalize the sport. Boxing gets dragged through the sewer when all-time greats start slurring words and can't take care of themselves. People wonder why the sport isn't outlawed, and the backlash hurts every other fighter and the fans. For all the courage Evander shows in continuing to fight, what he's doing ultimately is very selfish and potentially harmful to the sport. I'm sure he doesn't think about it that way, but for boxing at large, it would be a lot better if fighters like Holyfield would retire.
Has anyone heard Holyfield have a full conversation with someone recently? He seems slow to respond to any question.
