Thats what I'm saying. I skip, do the elliptical, run stairs, heavy bag, speed bag, double end bag, upper cut bag. And I still don't have the same kind of wind as the guys who do road work.
Do interval running. 200, 400, 800 metre sprints and what not. It's shorter, sharper, harder, and more enjoyable than roadwork and far less tedius and gruelling. It is a far more valuable type of running for boxing than roadwork. The only issue is you need to build up slow and stretch a lot because it has a high injury risk. Guys that go on about roadwork because some legend 40 years ago did it is the reason why boxing training is one of the least scientific of all sport training. Although the majority of top fighters do roadwork, several don't, Holyfeild and Haye are good examples.
Basketball is better in my opinion, because it's also working much more on your hand i co-ordination. And the use of both hands. Roy Jones was one of te greatest co-ordinated boxers in history.
Davids only defeat came from running out of steam, people like Ali, Lewis Marciano, Frazier all did loads of roadwork, I think haye should be doing it if he wants to dominate in the heavyweight division.
Seriously? I love running with a passion. I can't get enough of it. When I can't run it pisses me off. I run about 3 miles a day at a very fast pace which keeps me fit. Man I just love the buzz you get after finishing a long run. It really clears your head.
