I just can't see Pavik beating Hopkins

  1. I have a really bad feeling for Kelly about this fight....Don't get me wrong I love Kelly and respect him a helluva lot but I just think Hopkins is all wrong for Kelly, totally. Kelly doesn't have the experience to get into a fight with someone like Hopkins who at his age doesn't rely so much on his technical boxing but more on his defensive manner and stylistic nullification - which it must be said he excels at very well.
I can see Kelly coming into this fight and doing what he's usually doing which is no bad thing but given the fact it is a stand up style and quite simplistic (at least visually) but I see Hopins landing the better, cleaner shots espcially with his stance where he keeps his head slightly down and paws away shoulder height and either a) charges, grabs and spoils or b) throws one down the pipe - ala Tarver / Calzaghe. Either senario is something I see potentially happening here; alot.

Yes, Kelly hits hard and applies constant pressure and is young and yes Hopkins tired during the Calzaghe fight but Kelly aint no Calzaghe and his style while exhausting on his foe because of the constant pressure will be negated because I feel Hopkins will nullify his stand up style fairly easily.

Lastly, Pavlik is jumping up a good 2 weight classes compared to hopkins who sits comfortably @ 175; probably lower and just drinks to make up the weight pre weigh in. This weight gain is something which even though his frame may seemingly allow his body to accept it may not be able to develop suitably in time. Putting the weight on is one thing but maximizing it takes alot more time the human body needs to fully develop the muscle strands not just increase the mass via increased bloodflow - believe me there is a world of difference! Then ofc there's the drop down in weight again - just ask Jones about how hard that can be....

In closing I love Kelly but I see Hopkins even @ 43 taking this one through experience. I do hope I am wrong though.........

i think the fight is a stupid one for team pavlik to take.

no need at all to step up weight and fight hopkins.

i dont like the fight for him, but i hope he wins and i beleive if he walks through hopkins and lets his hands go, sets a high tempo, he will get the win.

but like calzaghe not look good doing so.

I fully expect Pavlik to beat him and to look good (not great) doing it. He has the jab, the physicality, and the youth to put in hard rounds and back Bernard up. Bernard will look silly as this goes into the mid rounds and he tries to tie Pavlik up.

Decision or late stoppage. Pull this post up afterward.

And Calzaghe fans, Im not suprised you cant visualize Pavlik doing well. It all makes sense doesn´t it?

I was going to make this EXACT post... I'm sure their prediction has NOTHING to do with how Calzaghe-Hopkins panned out either...

Hops will have his moments of controlling Pavlik, especially early on... But Pavlik is a better pressure fighter than Cal, will be able to fight for a full 3 mins for the whole 12 rounds - and HARD, and Hops simply won't be able to keep up.

I think Pavlik wins due to his high workrate and agression. In the 2nd Taylor fight Pavlik won because he was the agressor, Taylor hit him with better punches but Pavliks workrate won the day.I envision a similar fight with Hopkins

Hopkins is not a late round fighter anymore. Kelly is and that will prove the difference. Pavlik UD.

Bernard Hopkins has a fabulous ability in making his opponents look off the ball and poor. I fully expect him to clinch, grab and bully his way to a points decision over Kelly. Hope I am wrong however.

    great points...

I for one could see it being close in the first 4 rounds or so... but i think Hopkins, as do a lot of people.... underated Pavliks speed, and i think Pavliks punches will meet the mark quicker then he thought they would... making him even more defensive minded, and as he slows down around the middle rounds, pavlik doesnt, keeping up the pressure, pace, and outworks hopkins down the stretch for a decision.

    imo
