I just don't understand why people make fun of boxers quitting.

I don't mind boxers quitting IF they show a bit of heart. American boxers have no heart. Look at Roy Jones Jr's fight against Danny Green. He got knocked and then just thought "**** it, I ain't beating this guy" and quit. Also look at when Tony Thompson thought Klitschko, he quit when he wasn't even hurt.

American boxers lack the heart of European boxers.

 

I agree for the most part, fighting 4-5 rounds with a shattered jaw or taking a knee after spending 10 rounds or so being battered with plaster isn't nothing nice. I wouldn't do it.

Only the boxer who quits have to live with their decision and unlike the UFC quitters(they call it "tap out"),they are not given the same benefit of the doubt.Boxers are held up to a higher standard where as MMA "fighters" quit(tap out) all the time.

 

To be fair to MMA fighters, if they don't "tap out" they could get their arm broken or ACL torn into shreds. People get knocked unconscious in MMA all the time, and they quit on the stool, too. However, in BJJ & submission grappling, "taping out" isn't seen as "quitting"; in fact, not "taping out" when a guy has you in a deep catch is seen as idiotic and will be quickly snuffed out by an instructor. The whole process of "taping out" is seen as a learning experience and by refusing to submit, it's viewed as being ignorant of what the other opponent is trying to teach you.

I do agree that boxers are held to a higher standard, though.

The people who are ridiculous are the ones who say 'Victor Ortiz is a complete dick for quitting the Josesito Lopez fight', even though he broke his jaw so severely in a way Muhammad Ali didn't have his jaw broken, and has permanent screws in his jaw.
I would however, be inclined to criticise Victor Ortiz's fight with Maidana.
Those are the two stands of 'quitting' we can see.

When it's all said and done, these guys box for their families and to make a living.

 

for once i agree with you, i havent fought but ive sparred a few rounds and i will respect anyone that gets in a ring no matter if they lose or win

 

I agree. It is their future. You don't know what they are going through ore what risk they are taking. There are circumstances where a fighter is exhausted and has no chance and boxing fans calls him a *****.

 

I agree. Fantastic post. I am studying to be a Nuerologist and its amazing the impact punches have on the human brain. The keyboard warriors are a pathetic bunch.
