Porter wasn't as impressive as I first remembered. It was a very scrappy fight. Here is a few things a noticed. Porter is WIDE open a lot of the time when he darts in. BUT he darts in very quickly so Devon was just clinching a lot of the time. Devon DID land a lot of counters shots as Porter darted in. Straight lefts and the odd uppercut. Porter took them well though but Brook punches harder than Devon. Devon didn't fight his usual fight. He moved forward and tried to engage Porter. His distance management was poor. Porter is a raider. He stays outside then explodes and attempts to land punches on the way in and then when he is in. Here is how Brook can have success: Porter will start the fight on the outside. Brook CANT follow him like Devon did and step into the range where Porter can land. Brook needs to stick his jab and keep distance. If porter is on the outside then its perfect time to pick up points with jab. Pop the jab but don't go follow him where hes in range to punch. Remember Brook has the height advantage so Porter has to reach further than him to land. So Brook can use his jab to set up power punches. Now as long as Kell keeps him there he will have the advantage BUT the problem will arise when Porter launches in with his 2 fisted attack. Kell has a habit of going back in straight lines this will suicide against Porter. He needs to step off at ANGLES. Also he needs to time the attacks. This will be very hard because Porter has quick feet but Kell can do it. Time the right uppercut and it could be good night. But he also needs to clinch like a mofo. Soon as Porter darts in keep a tight guard and grab him. Porter will try to wriggle and push off and this is where Kell will have trouble if Porter is stronger. If Kell can keep this long and bust Porter up and then nullify enough when Porter comes inside then Brook can win by late stoppage or points.
Very good post , but I just see Brook getting swamped by those wild hooks and getting stopped pretty early. The most significant point I would make is that Brook doesn't move his head and is so upright. This goes about 4 - 6 rounds. Peace.
My main issue with Brook is that he pulls his head straight back, keeping his feet and upper body in place. That's not what you want to do against an explosive fighter with fast feet. I think he needs to end it early or make a very good start to win the fight because his stamina doesn't look great @ 147
Agree with this. Unless Brook can show us something new he gets stopped early. Porter's style isnt pretty but it is effective. He darts in so fast sometimes the opponent does have time to counter.
Kell could quite easily stop porter on his way in with solid quick counters, but porter could also quite as easily beat kell to submission on the inside Hope kell wins but this is 50/50 for me or 80/20 if it goes to scorecards (porter)
If brook has done his homework and is on top form he can win this, porter looked so open coming in against mallinagi. I hope brooks trainers have worked on his timing and footwork and know not to go back in straight lines against porter, if so kell could quite well look like he's doing a calzaghe/lacy beat down. Kell to win via late ko between 8-10
