What do you guys think? ... Berto is stepping up to the plate to become the mandatory of the WBC welterweight champion, Floyd Mayweather jr.

Is this the right move for Berto and his camp? ...

Will he ever get the fight? ... will the WBC ever mandate PBF to fight Berto?

How do you guys see this panning out?

Tough path for Berto to take, but I'd rather see that than see him just set back forever and not strive to be great. PBF would have a field day with him though.

You think the WBC will mandate this fight? ... or do you think that before it happens Berto goes after another belt?

I can't see PBF fighting this kid ... this would be too easy ... and i'm sure that he'll be intimidated before and after the fight.

don't know about PBF taking the fight, or that it's a good idea for Berto to start chasing him. Just think it shows balls on Berto.

when was the last time floyd ever defended that title? December..i don't know about the WBC rules but i think he should be beltless right now.

This year he's not looking to defend that title and i figured berto will fight for the vacant belt just like cintron did. Not that i'm comparing him to cintron but i think once he fights a name and top welter he gets exposed

this is from fightnews btw..i'm going to post top 5 ranking at 147 by the WBC

    1. Andre Berto
    2. Miguel Rodriguez
    3. Luis Collazo
    4. Carlos Baldomir
    5. Jackson Osei Bonsu

He's got a good chance of winning a title with those fighters. I think collazo and baldomir would give him trouble. I don't know about bonsu and rodriguez though

A low-risk low-reward fight for Floyd. If it's mandated, he'll vacate while still being "lineal" ring champ. I'm also not a lover of Floyd Mayweather but is anyone else getting sick of the "Fraud" and "Gayweather" and "Mayrunner" nonsense? This guy is one of the most gifted athletes in sports today.

    Box Rec has it...

FedEx Forum, Memphis, Tennessee, United States
Andre Berto SC Miguel Angel Rodriguez 12
Chris Arreola SC Chazz Witherspoon 12
    Dmitriy Salita SC ? 10
    Edgar Santana SC ? 10
    Rayonta Whitfield SC ? 0

The fight is June 21st in Memphis. I live right down the road from Memphis and have seen every major fight in the city. Betro has been on two undercards there, plus he fought twice in Little Rock. I guess the promoters think he can do well here because the fans are familer with him.

I like Berto, but he is still waaaaaay to raw to fight Floyd. It is to big of a jump. Hopefully it'll be a "tune-up" for Floyd v. Cotto.

He needs to get more rounds under his belt, preferably against tough pressure fighters. The path they choose for him is probably 1 of the most important factors in Berto's career. Look at the way Cotto's career is built up, very smart work. Putting a fighter in the wrong fight at the wrong time can **** a career up, and that's exactly what they need to watch out for with Berto.

    Yeah seems so sometimes.

Pavlik had to fight Zertuche in an eliminator to get his shot at Taylor.

Then the WBC said "Well, yeah, I guess you did win that, but if you REALLY want to fight Taylor you have to win a 2nd eliminator against Miranda".:verysad

Nutty as squirrel **** over at WBC.

If anything would berto just fight for the interim title? or go for another title ... I know he's fighting in an eliminator but no one in their right mind thinks that Berto has a chance including himself. Floyd isn't going to fight this kid and the WBC isn't going to strip Floyd who has won the WBC 5 times in as many divisions.

I'm just wondering if he's going to go for another belt? ... he's defended his regional belt a couple of times and now is looking for a world title shot.

Other than the WBC what other belts can Berto go for? ... can he legit pull a fight w/ Cotto or Margarito?

Yeah I think the WBC WW rankings speak for themselves. That's why belts mean nothing and fighters vacate - because of guys like Jose Sulaimain. What a joke.

I actually can see Floyd taking a fight against Berto ... or fighting Collazo in a mandatory defense ... Floyd wouldve been vacated that title if he didn't plan on defending it.

He's going to have to fight a mandatory or two or three ...

I don't know if you can make it a PPV fight but he we'll never know --

Paul Williams was Floyd's mandatory but chose to fight Margarito for his title.
