and i can't help myself but the seventh round... This content is protected ...Wilder was absolutely DONE. He couldn't even stand, had to clinch the whole time after getting clipped and the ref did nothing. Ortiz was landing bombs there with no punches coming back for almost 45 seconds. I have seen TKOs for less. Especially the last 20 seconds of the round were a demolition job, this is unreal **** we didn't see a TKO there. Wilder was definitely out on his feet, hardly throwing any punches, just trying to give some hugs to Ortiz. How the ref didn't stop the fight is beyond me. Credits to Wilder for coming back from this point but still i think he was protected there. It's also very strange that the ref is looking after him at the beginning of the eight round not immediately after the seventh round when he was completly destroyed and hammered. This has the touch of "We give him the time between the rounds + some extra time at the beginning of the eigth round to recover..." this + the not given stoppage before has a bitter taste.
He was given extra time at the start of the 8th because of the NSAC regulations. You could argue and ask why Ortiz want afforded the same treatment.
What's the exact rule? You can quote? It makes no sense to give fighter a extra time and fighter b not. And the timing is strange. Wilder was already standing up and want to continue and then the ref put him back in his corner... For me it did not look like protocol.
Yeah Haymon magically gave Wilder strength and fast recovery to help him come back to stop Ortiz... Smh
Yeah it's an odd rule but it is following NSAC guideines. They changed it after they had to pay out millions. Give it a search I'm sure you will find it. Seems odd to me why they don' do it between rounds but i think the argument is that takes away time with his corner
I am not questioning the rule. The rule is okay, logic and solid. But the implementation in that case is quite odd. 1. Wilder was already going into the middle of the ring to continue to fight 2. Ortiz did not receive such a "treatment" after getting knocked down couple of rounds before 3. It was very "spontanous" from all parties to give him the extra time otherwise Wilder would have knew it but he didn't so he went to continue to fight.
Its funny all these Wilder nuthuggers were all over the ref in the AJ v Parker fight yet none of them though it was strange for Wilder to get such preferential treatment in his last fight...
Wasn't that the same ref from Joshua v Klitschko who gave Wlad an extra 5-10 seconds after knockdowns?
The doctor coming to check was highly suspect was obviously done to give wilder time to recover. We have yet to see similar circumstance by that boxing commision ( they claim it's a new rule lol ) so now any fighter that gets rocked near the end of a round gets extra time to recover from the concussion by the ref bringing the doctor in ? gmafb corruption at it's finest.
