I have to give it to williams, that guys has a string chin.

I can't believe thought that many people say that williams dominated. I never thought that for a second, but I thought perhaps Cotto was getting outworked, but after watching it without listening to Stewart and Ledderman, Margarito was pounding away while Williams was mostly flicking away.

I thought Margrito WON the fight by a round. I can see why someone would score it for Williams, but this isn't amateur boxing, where the more punches you land, even meaningless ones count more than power punches.

    Close fight none the less.

What I meant to say in my poorly written post was that Margarito won the fight imo. Sure he threw and landed less, but he landed the more meaningful shots, and this is not an amateur fight where the fighter who throws and lands more wins by default.

But, I have no big problem with anyone giving it to Williams..I guess.

    What exactly is "meaningful"?
Is it meaningful when you only land a handful of power punches that have next to no effect on your opponent?
Or is it meaningful when you land scores of weaker shots that keep your opponent at bay and never let them develop an offensive rhythm?

While you ponder that keep in mind, no matter how hard Williams would have hit Martagito it was not going to have any serious effect or slow him down, the only effective thing he could do was slap the man into oblivion.

Judged on volume Williams took it by a round but if based on punch effectiveness Margo 115-113. If you like a bit of both then a draw would be fair by any standard.

I have to say again that Williams' chin is a lot better than expected despite his ability to drain himself to 147. Margo landed some pretty wild looping shots there that would have easily floored most welters including Cotto and Williams took them over and over again.

The funny part is Margarito got a taste of what it was like to fight himself and although he does not fear him there are certainly easier pickings at 147 so he's in no big rush to rematch his mirror image. Him and Paul are more alike then people would care to admit.

I had it 7-5 for Williams.

Good fight, closer IMO than many others said it was.

My friend is a Margarito fan and had good tickets at the fight and though Williams won 9-3. While I was rooting for Williams, I thought he won by a very close margin. The 12th round was a real gut check for Paul and I thought he came through with flying colors.

As do I. I scored it for Margarito as well. Of course, I did what you did. I went back and watched it second by second carefully. Margarito clearly won that fight. No question.

How about making a man **** his own blood? Williams was at time running. And when he wasn't he was fighting with his hands open.

Body shots get so underrated in boxing, it'd unbelievable. It's like if throwing body punches don't even count in the scoring system, they're only there as a tool to slow the opponent down. That is ignorant, and wrong.

Seriously, San? I don't think someone winning by 1 point is "clearly"

If Margarito was doing anything in the first couple of rounds and the 12th he would have won. He didn't do much the first 6 rounds and came on towards the middle but he lost the last round.

at first I had it 9-3. I watched it again and scored it 8-4. While AM did land some hard shots, he did not hurt Williams, but he did cut him. Williams clearly won in my mind.
