So yeah, I have a day off tomorrow and decided to watch GGG - Canelo 2 at 0.25 speed, I just finished. I've counted every single punch landed in the fight and refreshed and analysed if some were uncertain or the view was blocked by the ref or bad camera angle.

I decided to put my unique twist on the punch stats, using a scoring system instead
Lets call this system POINTS, here's the breakdown:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JAB or any lazy power punch = 1 point
    BODY SHOT (clean)= 2 points
POWER SHOT that mostly lands clean = 3 points
HUGE power shot (Stuff like Canelo left hook 2nd round or GGG straight right in 10th) = 8 points.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here are the punch totals, both traditional and my modified version.
    PUNCH TOTALS
    punches / points
    ROUND 1
    Golovkin - 23 punches / 23 points
    Canelo - 15 punches / 16 points

    ROUND 2
    Golovkin - 25 / 29
    Canelo - 21 / 34
Big left hook from Canelo scores 8 points

    ROUND 3
    Golovkin - 22 / 22
    Canelo - 14 / 18

    ROUND 4
    Golovkin - 39 / 42
    Canelo - 22 / 25

    ROUND 5
    Golovkin - 36 / 40
    Canelo - 19 / 26

    ROUND 6
    Golovkin - 26 / 28
    Canelo - 25 / 27

    ROUND 7
    Golovkin - 26 / 30
    Canelo - 24 / 30

    ROUND 8
    Golovkin - 37 / 41
    Canelo - 30 / 36

    ROUND 9
    Golovkin - 37 / 48
    Canelo - 21 / 34
8 pointer for a huge Golovkin left hook on the break.

    ROUND 10
    Golovkin - 41 / 55
    Canelo - 29 / 44
8 pointer for a huge Golovkin straight right, interestingly Golovkin only landed 1 punch in the 15 seconds following the 8 point right hand.

    ROUND 11
    Golovkin - 35 / 40
    Canelo - 23 / 35

    ROUND 12
    Golovkin - 32 / 54
    Canelo - 32 / 40
Golovkin landing two 8 point shots, one with the left hook at the start of the round and then an uppercut shortly after, interestingly the commentary said Alvarez landed a big shot just as Golovkin landed that left hook, watching it in slow motion you could see that Alvarez didn't even touch Golovkin with that punch.

    ---- OVERALL PUNCH STATS / POINTS ----
    GOLOVKIN - 379 PUNCHES LANDED / 452 POINTS
    CANELO - 275 PUNCHES LANDED / 325 POINTS

So in conclusion, the fight was an amazing display of skill by both fighters and it was even better to watch at 0.25 speed as I could see all the little things and stuff you wouldn't notice at normal speed. Canelo landed less than 10 clean body shots in that fight, 80% of them were blocked by GGG's elbows but looked like they landed, Golovkin also parried a lot of Canelo's shots. Canelo landed more jabs than I thought when I watched the fight in normal speed. The most hurtful shot Golovkin recieved was actually a jab, I forgot the round but I remember Golovkin losing his bearings for just a split second after getting hit with a great jab from Canelo.

However, Golovkin was a clear winner that fight, people made such a big fuss about Canelo and his body work that fight, GGG completely neutralised it and Canelo's flashy technique made it look like he landed while in fact a huge percentage of the body shots were blocked by GGG.

Watching this fight in slow motion I had it 117-111 to Golovkin, 115-113 GGG if I gave Canelo every close round.

OK great, but why is it fair to make body shots, regardless of relative impact, worth twice as much as jabs or say straight rights?
By this scoring system maybe Frazier would have been considered well ahead in Manilla, & Foreman in Zaire, before the fights were stopped.
That part of the system does not see fair.

Slow motion reveals nothing. It's used in every major sport simply as filler.

    Right, @Bustajay ?

I counted a clean straight right as 3 or 8 points, clean body shots are more valuable than jabs or grazing shots so I valued them at 2 points, still neither fighter landed more than 10 body shots the whole night

    What's that in the sky?

    Is it a bird?

    Is it a plane?

No, it's ShadowMan coming to Canelo's rescue!!!

I disagree with the 8 point punches. A short crisp hook on the inside isn't flashy and may not have a huge wind up but it could easily have done more damage than any of the big shots you mentioned here. A massive puncher like Beterbiev would be at a disadvantage just because he doesn't throw flashy punches. Meanwhile a flashy puncher like Jacobs might get more favorable cards.

I just gave the 8 pointers to the very very significant punches, there were only 5 punches in the whole fight that got 8 points. They didnt have to be flashy, GGG landed a sneaky left hook at the start of the 12th that stunned and surprised Canelo, I gave him 8 points for that.

Surprisingly there werent that many clean punches in this fight, both displayed amazing defensive skills.

But why are clean body shots worth more than clean headd shots?
Unless you can show they have more power or effect, they should be worth the same.
Obviously grazing shots are worth less.

To me the take away is that GGG landed 100 more punches than Canelo and reinforces my score of 8-4 to Golovkin as being correct. I also agree that Canelo's bodywork is not nearly as impressive in slo mo as it is at full speed. Golovkin's elbows-in stance and the arm he keeps across the body goes a long way to dealing with the body shots. Conversely, the way he stands also means he's gonna eat more uppercuts.
