I just watched all of Gamboa's youtube.com fights in critical mode...

hahaa actually i've never seen Barthelemy fight just throwing his name out there cause he did really well against Gamboa in the amateurs (3-1 if i recall correctly) and comparitively he is getting zero hype. Like KG said its because he isn't knocking em out.

I think this is a big step up for Gamboa and i'm rooting for him even though i still think my boy Linares though 4 years younger would **** him up bad.

BTW is Gamboa vs Rojas at 130 or 126?

lol the last C level guy he fought (assuming you are talking about Gameliel Diaz) is the same guy who beat the current IBF featherweight champ 2 years ago and Linares absolutely demolished him. Don't talk like it was a close fight because Diaz basically landed 1 good punch the entire fight and Linares was not even stunned by it.

And Diaz landed that punch when he ran out at the start of the round and lunged for Linares as if he knew it was his only chance. Gamboa does that and he will get double chin checked you can count on that.

You are just mad that you didn't spot this guy first. He is different from your "gods" Mijares and Gamboa (who are both absolutely outstanding), but he is easily in the same catagory (maybe better) and is ultimately much more crowd pleasing. A possible Linares/Gamboa clash in a few years is quite exciting to contemplate. I worry that both are promoted in foreign countries, and (especially in the case of Gamboa) may not garner the deserved attention and fan base.

i too was a bit critical about gamboa. though i still think he is rated way to highly in the abd orgs at this point, i do believe that he will be a force in the near future. i think he could beat two of the four abc champs at 130 right now.

 

For your info i do not rate Linares as a god and do see a few flaws in his defence for example he has a tendancy to pull straight back with his hands down and also sometimes seems to get complacent, however you have to be foolish to think that he has peaked at only 22 years old.

His timing is extremely good.

 

i don't wanna hijack this Gamboa thread but Linares also blocks punches very well, can fight as well off the backfoot as anyone, throws very well to the body, can counterpunch, jab, hook, uppercut, lead with his right, etc. Just his movements are not that sharp.

 

i think juarez is spent dude. i can't see him beating top contenders at 126 and 130. a match with chris john is what i am wishing for linares

 

100% my thoughts exactly. Zab Judah looked spectacular and great too on his way up fighting 4 or 6 rounders. It's impossible to say a guy is 'the future of boxing' when he hasn't been past the 6th round yet, and he's only been that far once!
Don't get me wrong, the first time i saw him (against DeJesus) he really made my jaw drop, but let's give the guy some time, and more importantly, some freakin' rounds.
