There's no controversy... Duva climbed onto the ring apron which would have merited an automatic disqualification at the time.

    Also, Taylor didn't answer.

You'll have guys like max Kellerman saying that Taylor deserved those two seconds.

Well, first of all, he went down with 16 seconds to go, not twelve, and also, Chavez was 66-0 at the time. Why shouldn't HE get a free 2 seconds?

There are 3 minutes per round, not 2:58.

The bottom line with this is that Steele isn't the time keeper, he gave Taylor two chances to verbally respond to him and then stopped the fight when Taylor failed to do so.

He did looked dazed and hurt to me. Plus, he did not answer the referee.

I'm gutted for Meldrick for losing that fight...every time I watch it.Steele did what he had to do....He followed the ref instructions to the letter....I know..I know,I hate him for it too...I thought Meldrick had earned the benefit of the doubt up till that stage...Either way,Stelle did what refs are supposed to do in those circumstances..He asked the man twice and never got a response...and this is after watching Taylor gradually get damaged by JCCs shots...

However...I disagree strongly with people who say that fight was close going onto the last round....IMHO,even by the 9th,JCC needed a KO...Even in the round where he really damaged Taylor,he was still getting outworked....Taylor was throwing and landing a lot more....The difference was,JCC took a hell of lot of better shot than Meldrick....and of course,by the later rounds,Meldrick's shot had much less sting, and JCC was able to take them much better...and thus was able to really sit on his shots...again,IMO he was still getting tagged 3-1 by Taylor....But you could also see that every time JCC landed he was doing damage..

I had it 9-1-1 going into the 12th..having given JCC the 9th..and the 10th just about even.

Truly a great fight. My heart cracks for Meldrick Taylor. He was one of those special talents...Tons of heart...And that turned out to be his downfall...The cat had all the skills to to have pitched a 12-0 shut-out on Chavez...he had the feet, movement, fast hands....Instaed,he sat in the pocket for most of the fight and JCC damaged him for good.

One of the greatest fights I've ever watched.

:nono The difference was that which Richard Steele said, that Chavez was landing shots to break bones!

This is professional boxing, harder effective shots count for alot more than shoeshines that look flashy.

Chavez' shots were cleaner, harder, and more precise......
Taylor's shots came in flurries with alot less sting in them, and when you look more closely at the blurr of the flurries, its a credit to Chavez' defense that he's riding with alot of the shots, and making Taylor miss alot of his shots, with the HBO crew making the viewer believe that Taylor was connecting with them.

For as fast handed Taylor was, that was great defense from JC Chavez.

To have given a fighter who's shots were much more effective just one round out of the first 11, is absolutely ridiculous!
