Jones looked ****. That was a diminished version of Trinidad. Dispite that Jones looked slow and only capable of fighting 1 minute of every round. Calzaghe will have way to much energy and output for him. Joe will sense him fading after 7 or 8 and hammer in the corner until the ref stopps a defencless roy from taking punishment. It's sad that Roy doesn't have what he used to. But it is a fact none the less. Roy's style is one that does not hold up well to depletion. Once you take away some of its impetus, the whole thing falls to pieces.
Trinidad wasnt that bad considering hes been out of boxing. He still has a lot in him. Just needs to get rid of the ring rust.
No offenceif you're a Trinidad fan, but who cares about Trinidad right now? It's all about whether Jones can stay on the ropes for 12 and keep punching. If he does we wins; if he doesnt, he loses.
Jones isnt half the fighter he used to be. it should be an easy win for Calzaghe. Jones looked scared of Trinidad for the first half of their fight. thats pathetic. it wasnt until he realized how much stronger he was than Tito is when he started taking the fight.
I totaly agree with this post..I felt the same way waching the fight. Jones must have seen soemhting in the Joe C/ Hops figth that he feels he can capitalize on.. but I dunno man :think
I started my own thread on this last week. I thought Trinidad looked like a 35-year-old welterweight fighting 23lbs above his natural fighting weight and who hadn't won a fight in 4 years - ie TERRIBLE. I thought Jones looked like a shot fighter pushing 40 who hadn't beaten a world top 10 ranked fighter in 4 years - ie AWFUL. I thought the fight looked like a training bout, no urgency, no sustained aggression, no-one going for a stoppage, two guys so so past prime it was tragic to watch. A horrible horrible fight, I wish 2 guys as good as this knew when to retire- and I don't mean now, they should both have packed it in in 2005.
He seems to get that type of injury often as I recall he had the same problem against Hopkins. You could definitely see how his left bicep was deformed in the Trinidad fight so it wasn't an excuse.
2 things - 1 is money the other is pride. Jones like to think of himself in terms of his old form. That's a much more satisfying self image. But i'm sure he knows in his heart he is way past it. And for a payday and some more attention, why not have a crack at Calzaghe?
I have a feeling Calzaghe is going to shatter Roy's Glass Jaw just like Glen Johnson did. It can happen, Roy's Chin is that bad.
