Not as in who won, but as in excitement. It picked up in the mid rounds to the late rounds, but it wasn't half as exciting as Fury/Usyk
I agree. Not an exciting fight. Usyk v AJ 2 was a bit better (and with the bonus of AJ's bizarre post-fight 'performance').
In context it was exciting. There were those on here who said that Usyk had no chance, and one notorious idiot even said he was cashing out. It was exciting to see him bank round after round.
He opened the fight with a strong straight left hand too. Usyk often does this, trying to assert himself early on. It´s an old tactic to get the opponents respect, used to be brought up more. Watching it live was really exciting. Plenty of back forth and the finish was quite dramatic.
It was better in the moment because Usyk was coming off a disappointing performance against Chisora and was unproven at HW. Weighing against the excitement was AJ's inactivity and series of unimpressive performances beforehand. You couldn't claim he was well prepared with a straight face. Too bad he didn't get that KO on Wallin beforehand, that would have been good preparation and result that would have renewed confidence in AJ.
I wouldn't even say it was a casual thing. Usually when fighters stand infront of eachother doing nothing, there usually is them either looking to counter or looking for mistakes ,finding the range. But I just felt both fighters were just gunshy. AJ was scared of getting knocked out as usual and Usyk didn't apply much of anything until the mid rounds
Usyk fought him twice and didn't even knock him down once. But he had Dubois down for the count, and had Fury on the verge of being stopped.
AJ is a plodding bum but he does have power. Usyk didnt even get out of 2nd gear against him, he relaxed and backed off after round 4 just preserving his energy. Easy night. He layed everything on the line against Fury.
I actually wonder whether to some extent Usyk "carried" Joshua. He's expressed willingness to face Joshua a third time, presumably only because Joshua is the 'cash cow'.
I don't think he carried him in the rematch. The fight was close up until the 10th round and he needed to step up, which oh my god he did.
Didn't need to get out of second gear for either Aj fight, but he really needed to bring out all his tools to overcome Fury, as he was getting a pasting rounds 4-6 Joshua is a stiff robot, easy for a fighter like usyk
I really enjoyed it. It was amazing watching Usyk in his prime winning the titles in such fashion. Then again, I've enjoyed rewatching Fury vs. Wlad.
