"Take the belt from the champ" originally referred to a champ retaining in the event of a tie. It has nothing whatsoever to do with a guy getting extra credit in a round or winning by default just because he had the belt going into a fight, and fans who score on that basis are completely clueless.

Could you post the score by rounds?

 

Two words: 'Effective' and 'aggression'. If judges scored the fight without the first word then Krusher would have got the nod. But aggression has to be effective to score points and over the 12 rounds I don't think Kovalev's pressure was effective enough to counter Ward's ring generalship. That leaves punch stats and these cancelled each other out: Krusher landed a few more, Ward was more accurate. So in the end we have to pitch 'ineffective aggression' against ring generalship and by doing so you get a close but deserved win for Ward.

Now let's do it again...

 

yeah good point,it's a funny thing about boxing isn't it in that fights aren't scored on one guy's ability to take a punch or one guy's power,moreover it's about clean work,sometimes aggression in a close fight and volume,Ward came back into the fight and Kovalev didn't do enough to stop him in my opinion even though I still had Kova a round up or a draw at worst.

 

Yep another reason I disliked the decision,it's like they fought Wards the A side so we give it him,trust me while I was rooting for Kovalev I'm always subjective about these things and I think my posts on here show that,being as subjective as I can I could only give Ward six rounds at the very best.

Yeah I know what you mean,not enough on here are subjective enough,it's like in the Canelo and GGG threads where they both have one winning by KO in the first round,I know I was rooting for Kova and could clearly see that Ward had fought his way back but just not enough to take the belts as it meant giving Ward seven out of twelve rounds and I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm a Kova fan but to give Ward seven was one too much,it doesn't sound like a robbery given it was close but I think cause Ward has now got the belts it looks harsh on Kova

 

Then by that logic the bigger puncher will always win and guys like Ward don't have a shot. Might as well just arm wrestle or punch a power measuring bag.

Not really ,it wasn't. A competitive fight isn't a close fight.going by the OLD rule to be the champion you have to beat the champion is true. Theres not more than ONE round you can point to me where Ward clearly or cleanly wins. I know because ive watch this 5 times now and will point out any round you think he won leaving you with 3 rounds to Ward . Ward won? Not on this planet with proper judging.
