Surely they can only win the title in the weight class they fight e.g. supermiddle, whilst retaining their ring titles in the other weight classes no matter who wins?

e.g If the fight is a super middle...

Pavlik win means he goes home with middleweight and supermiddle ring title, Joe keeps the light heavyweight one

Joe wins he retains his supermiddle and light heavy, Pavlik keeps middleweight.

    Is this correct?

    thanks.

Turns out , surprise, surprise, no.

If Pavlik wins then he wins the SMW belts and every belt of a higher weight that CAlzaghe has including his LHW belt. But if Calzaghe wins then he can't touch Pavlik's MW belts because they're under the weight at which they plan on fighting.

really??? what an incentive for Pavlik! Pavlik would essentially be trebling his share of belts whilst Calzaghe would only be retaining.

That is wrong. You can't take someone belt unless you beat them in that weight class.

I will have to double check, but I'm pretty sure as long as they didn't weigh OVER 175, then that shiz is on the table too. Like said above, If Joe could make 160, all 3 would be on the line, including Pav's other 2.

    Talk about MEGA FIGHT!

IMO, Kelly vs. Joe is THE fight in all of boxing. Absolutely hands down now that Mayweather has made it clear the Cotto fight is off.

Tons of Angles, 160 undisputed vs 168 undisputed &175 Ring Champ, Old guard vs New guard, Usa/UK (as long as we keep it fun, and not all Arran-ish), neither wants to lose to a white boy  , etc, etc...:good

    Let's Get It ON!!

that is what I originally thought but I've heard lots of different opinions. On the Ring website it has a picture of the current issue and says something along the lines of Calzaghe can defend both belts if he wants. Does this mean he is welcome to keep both belts and as long as he defends each one in it's weight class, or that he can defend both at once.

The way I always thought of it was that you had to win the belt in the weight class it is contested in.

That is correct sir. The Ring openly invites (and wishes) for Calzaghe to defend both belts, but if he decides to stay in only 175, they would like for him to give up the 168 (out of fairness to the guys fighting in 68, I.E. don't hold it hostage sort of thing...which the Ring said they are sure he's the type of guy that would not do that.) The Ring is excited about Joe having both, and TBH the issue you're talking about is a must have for Joe fans, because TBH it gives Joe a long slow blow job from cover to cover:lol: .

You can't take someone's belt unless you are fighting them in that weight class. It's why Mayweather didn't touch Hatton's 140 Ring belt, likewise Calzaghe can't take Palvik's middleweight belts. Applies to higher weights aswell I'm sure, so I don't think Pavlik can take Joe's 175 Ring belt unless they fight at 175, likewise then he can't take his 168 titles unless they fight at 168.

    Only two weight classes.

If Pavlik wins: he would be the 160 and 168 Champ.

If Calzaghe wins: he still is the 168 and 175 Champ.

it would be ridiculous if calzaghe assuming he wins against pavlik, gets branded as the man in 160 when he never had fought at 160. Wheres your logic people:patsch

you only get the title at that weight you fought

Still doesn't make it any less exciting when you've got 3 ring belts involved in one fight, even if one's not on the line.

The fight would be at 168, KPs 160 title would not be on the line.

When Joe beats Pavlik, Kelly will still be undisputed middleweight champ, much like when Hatton lost to PBF.
