I had Cotto winning by a round, but it was a close fight and I wouldn't argue a Canelo win. But that judging...Canelo has gotten more than the benefit of the doubt every single time he's been a tough fight. He got a ridiculously fishy fast stoppage against Alfonso Gomez in 2011(and the cards for that fight were awful). In 2013, he won a dubious wide decision against Austin Trout in a fight that could have gone either way. The same year he got badly outclassed by Floyd but somehow CJ Ross found six rounds to give Canelo. Wins another could have gone either way fight against Lara where one of the cards was an insane 117-111. Wins last night against Cotto(in another could have gone either way fight) by crazy margins on the cards. I respect Canelo for be willing to make big fights in the last three years or so, but this is not a good look for boxing.

Yup agreed. I thought we would see a new improved 160 canelo and I didn't see much anything different from hisnother fights

And I don't like either fighter over the other. Here are some points.

1. Canelo didn't look any better against Cotto than he did against floyd. Floyd is just faster than Cotto and punches harder. So lets dispel any "new canelo" or "160 prime canelo" from starting.

2. Cotto landed good crisp combos. Maybe I'm just biased toward good combo punching. But I feel he landed a lot more than they gave him credit for.

3. You have to take the belt from the champ. I don't feel like that happened.

4. Cotto is old, has already been stopped by pacquiao and Margarito. He was also beaten better by Floyd imo.

5. Seems like a weird fix. Canelo is a young, handsome, humble, personable man. He is a good throwback fighter. He is promoted by Oscar de LA hoya. I don't think the hands who put money into this wanted cottl to win.

6. Despite all of this, I still think canelo can beat Golovkin.

Anyway congrats to canelo for becoming a lineal champion. Good fight from two sons of mayweather.

How are 4,5 &6 reasons Cotto won the fight?

I watched the Sky sports broadcast without the biased HBO commentary. I saw Cotto winning the fight with clearly superior skills, if less power. It's funny, since usually the British commentators are the most biased in the business, but only if there is a Brit involved. They didn't seem to give a **** about either Canelo or Cotto last night. It was like watching a fight with the sound off.

Personally, I was expecting Canelo to knock Cotto out, but clearly we've all been overestimating Canelo. I think even the old post prime Pacquiao we have now might still be able to beat Canelo. Even a rematch with Cotto wouldn't be bad since Cotto's still got it.
