I kinda consider Shane Mosley Overrated

Yeah, I liked Shane a lot but I can't help but think he never fully capitalized on his talent. He had brilliant talent but sometimes he just didn't have the best ring intelligence.

Sometimes he could be smart and disciplined-Oscar I, Collazo. Other time he was unimaginative and predictable.

 

fair enough, though i would point out that Sugar Shane was 39 when he fought Mayweather, and 40 or over for the other four fighters you cite has having dominated him

he looked old and tired and nothing even resembling his prime self when he got in the ring with Canelo in 2012

when i watched that fight i would not have guessed that Mosley would fight five more times after that loss.

 

A number of those losses are to elite fighters either above his natural weight or in the twilight of his career. No shame in any of his losses.

Roach knew to keep Pac away when he was younger for fear of what might happen.

 

Overrated?

Suely Mosely was amongst the best and most successful boxers of the past twenty or so years.

Mosley turned pro in the ealy 90's. His epic fights with DelaHoya were almost twenty years ago!

His losses came against good champions when he was already past his best. Still he fought near the top of the sport until quite recently.

Mosely may not be the greatest fighter in recent memory, but he's surely one of them.

 

Mosley was an animal at Lightweight before ever moving up to WW to beat DLH, which at that time was an incredible accomplishment.

The Forrest and Wright losses definitely hurt him, and I feel like he lost the DLH rematch too. But the Cotto fight was very very close, and he was the first to really give it to Cotto and make him retreat.

His win over Margarito is one of my all time favorite fights.

 

Shut up! He didn't need to fight Vernon or Winky! And if he didn't, your dumb ass would be saying you don't respect him because he didn't fight them. Losing to top 10 comp in or near his prime and losing to belt holders past prime and in a division(154) he should have never been in to begin with should not be a knock against him. 2 loses to arguably top 30 ATG's.... really, you giving him sh!t for that?

 

Not the best boxing brain, but really talented with speed, power, chin and stamina.

 

If anything he is underrated. All week I've been reading fawning praise for Marquez since he announced he's finally jacking it in, if anybody is being overrated it is him. Sugar Shane was great to watch and even if he didn't win them all he featured in a gazillion massive fights over the years. Buckling Mayweather and demolishing Margo during the Oldsley stage of his career are great memories. Shane Mosley deserves to be celebrated.

 

From a technical view I rate Marquez alot higher than Mosley.

 

I won't argue with that, JMM wasn't the darling of boxing hipsters for nothing. I get he is textbook perfect and a hardcores dream of a counterpunching warrior type but I prefer the speed, power and guile of Sugar Shane. Doesn't hurt that I like the way Mosley comes across personality wise while Marquez can kind of rub me up wrong.

 

Oh I prefer Shane as a man and fighter.

Easily so, bigger man, faster and too powerful. One of best fantasy fights would be Pryor Vs Mosley at law. Pryor is my favourite fighter of all times

 

Shane was old against Margarito, Mayweather and Pacquiao. The fact that he DOMINATED and KTFO Margarito tells you he wasn't overrated. (it's Margarito who is overrated in my book especialy without plaster) Winky Wright was a problem for anybody. Forrest had his number. Some fighters just do well against one fighter. Forrest was to Mosley as JMM is to Pac.
