I don’t know. You’ll have to ask Julian Jackson, Simon Brown, Keith Mullings and Laurent Boudouani how they went about whipping his arse.
according to you, Leonard was going to win. I love Leonard as much as anyone here but I had to face facts; Terry was like no other opponent Leonard had faced and while Leonard certainly did better than most of Terry's foes, even that was no contest Leonard with all his vast edge in experience could do nothing to change his course with a losing destiny But at least he has that win over Hearns
according to a late 90s KO Mag, Terry is the greatest 154 pounder of all time and that includes Hearns & McCallum
you can also throw out Benitez. Not exactly a household name and I never thought much of him anyways A younger Leonard would probably do somewhat better against Norris but nobody believes he would actually win
Hearns is considered one of the best, if not the most talented at that weight. I believe he had three defenses
How could you possibly know this? Heck don't understate yourself, you love Leonard more than anyone here. A true believer. Safe bet you would be a devout Belieber too i reckon. Would you say he did better than Julian Jackson? How about Simon Brown? Yes given Leonard was just shy of 35 he deffo had the edge in experience. And Hagler and Duran and Benitez (who was a household name in every sporting household except yours) and Lalonde and Kalule and Ranzany etc etc etc etc
Don't you ever get bored of this Norris-Leonard trolling? I'd happily go along with the delusion if there was a bit of wit or humour attached to it. So if you're going to troll, at least make it funny... As has been stated by plenty of people previously, everyone apart from you (but probably you too) knows that Leonard was shot when he met Norris. But the way you talk about it is like Leonard was taking his first fight immediately after unifying the WW title with Thomas Hearns in 1981. The reality, as you well know, is that he was on his 3rd of 4 comebacks since retiring in 1982. I like Norris - I enjoyed him when he fought - but he had some obvious weaknesses that a 35 year old shot version of Ray Leonard couldn't do anything about but that a 25 year old prime version of Sugar Ray would have sussed out and exposed in a 15 round contest sooner or later. Norris was a very good champion and I'd describe him as a nearly great. Love him or hate him, Leonard was a great fighter and a notch above Norris as an all-round fighter. Norris would be competitive with a live version of Leonard but prime for prime, I'd pick Ray every time.
I was the only one among a dozen or so coworkers who felt Leonard would stop Hearns. My thought at that time was that Ray had the speed and power to catch Hearns whom I saw having wide holes in his defense. The Monday after the bout I had a line of people each handing me a 10 dollar bill.
