I knew The Ring would not move Joe up the p4p rankings for beating a shot fighter.

OK, losing to a guy 2 weight divisions higher than you in a one-off fight means you are not as good at your own weight than a guy you were better than before you moved up in weight. It makes no sense.:patsch

Joe Calzaghe challenging and losing to Vitali won't mean he is not the best anymore at SMW.

I cant believe some fans think `the ring` is the be all & end all of boxing, they are no better than anyone else, they have their favourites too, boxing is a judge for yourself sport, I dont need the ring to tell me who is no1 or anything else.

I think Calzaghe is the best boxer in the world & to be honest, I rarely even think about the ring, its just another little piece in a big boxing jigsaw, I find their magazine terribly biased toward certain fighters & I struggle to respect them any more than any other general fans opinion if Im being honest.

This is good to see, Calzaghe does not deserve to be moved up at this stage.

Also, for those saying DLH is a waste of time, what would you call fighting RJJ?

    Exactly.

Boxing is a judge for yourself sport, but boxers fight for The Ring belts and when people speak about who is pound-for-pound number 1, they are referring to The Ring rankings, so it seems the vast majority of the worldwide boxing community value The Ring more than you yourself do.

They still don't mean that much. Not when they make huge mistakes and knee jerk everytime one of the guys on their list lose.

Let's never mention them again then. Tell all the champions to bin their belts.

I have to say I expected Joe to go no1 after all the hysteria that has been whipped up over a win against Jones. The decision by Ring to keep him where he is - really did restore my faith in boxing! I was beginning to think, if beating a totally shot boxer gets you p4p no1 what's the point in following the sport. Money, pension fights should not be rewarded - thankfully the Ring have seen sense, not done that, and I salute them!

Live competitive fights should be rewarded through rankings not non events like we saw Saturday night.

The Rings decision can only be good for the sport - they are encouraging fights with live opponents not dead in the water ones.

That's fair enough, and a valid point. Having said that most boxers look toward the Ring rankings though, as do most of the boxing community, it is the most authoritative source out there, and has been a respected body since 1922. When boxers talk about being p4p no1 they are referring to the Ring rankings - nothing else!

I know you had Joe at no1, and desperately wanted him to be put there, but sadly he hasn't been rewarded for beating up a totally shot fighter, Bill. I'm sure a win over Dawson in the future could well get him that coveted P4P no1 position.

    Bit dramatic.

I'm just saying they make a lot of mistakes, its not some kind of gospel. Example 1, Margarito moves right up to 6 from nowhere due to one win over Miguel Cotto. Miguel Cotto slips down to 8.

Ricky Hatton loses to Floyd Mayweather, and disapears entirely.

Now what if somebody beats Margarito? Do they just replace him and does he dispear again?

They don't know what they are doing a lot of the time, there isn't a great deal of analysis that goes into it as you seem to think, its knee jerk stuff. I could make a sensible list and then replace guys as soon as they lose. They aren't actually thinking about the fighters themselves.

Rico Spadafora i completely agree with you on this issue, i put a thread up on here the other day regarding boxers resumes and how posters compile lists ?, i stated that it seems to me that some people give credit for a boxer losing a fight ??? eg if a boxer fights 10 quality opponents wins 5 and loses 5 they rank him higher than somebody that has faced 6 quality opponents and won the lot.
In my book 6 quality wins is better than 5 and a 100% success rate is better than 50%, these people are rewarding failure.
I also think PACFAN84 was trying to be smart with you as i also interpreted his posts as meaning a boxer could lose several fights and retain his ranking ! {as long as its above his normal weight class} he now seems to be saying a fighter can have a one off fight above his weight class and even if he gets hammered his p4p ranking will not be effected ?
What kind of system is this rewarding failure ?

The Ring is a joke that is owned by ODLH. He wants PAC fraud to stay on top so that when he blasts him out in 6, Oscar can move up in the P4P ratings :hi:
