I had a good racket going as I would lacerate my opponent's mouth at night, and next day have them as my patient in my office... Never a champion but I was a helluva fighter in my weight class. Who was I ?

BU, yes Leach Cross "the Fighting Dentist" who preceeded Benny Leonard as the "idol" of the lower Eastside of New York City. He became a dentist during his early career and had a unique way of bolstering business. Often he would knock out his opponents teeth [ no mouthpiece then], and the next day some of his opponents would be at his office [Dr Louis Wallach]
for treatment or replacements...And YES he would remove his boxing gloves while working on his patients...

The same applied to Gerrie Coetzee. He also studied dentistry.
