The ref stopped it because, as soon as Mayorga got knocked down the 2nd time he knew that he shouldn't of let it continue after the 1st knock down.

He gave him the benefiit of the doubt there, and it is his responsibility to make sure the fighter is healthy and gets medical attention when needed, and he needed it there.

In the uk the other day the ref got absoloutly slated for giving the full 10 count when the boxer should of been getting medical attention.

medical attention is the only valid reason the ref could have stopped the fight. because "he would not have gotten up anyways" should have nothing to do with it.

imo, Mayorga was fine and didn't need medical attention, but that's the ref's decision and i can respect that

The ref has to protect the fights at all times and he should not change the way he would call a fight because its the last second of the last round. I think it was the right call.

If refs start to change the way they call fights due to what round it is or how much time if left in the round, it will destroy the integrity of the fight and someone is going to get hurt or god forbid killed

What's dumb is counting to 10 when its not neccesary...when a fighter gets knocked down and you let them fight when they are not respondant because they are only 10 seconds left. Then the fighter takes another brutal punch in which he is clearly out and he lays life less on the canvas only able to raise his head a few inches over the canvas. The guy didn't move any of his body...in that scenario I think its dumb for a ref to stand over him and count him out. And it's just as moronic to suggest that a ref count him out. U can tell when a guy is knocked down and when a guy is seriously hurt... Mayorga was seriously hurt...did you notice how long he layed there afterwards?

I just can't see why someone would think a ref needs to count to 10 when a guy clearly has a concussion...that's flawed logic.:huh

I heard that. What the hell is going on with the judges? How could ANYONE have Mayorga ahead on points.

I was shocked at that one

that is obviously why i said the only reason not to count would be if the ref thinks the fighter needs medical attention right away. But not counting cause the fighter won't be able to beat the count, that's dumb.

Mayorga did not have a concussion.

I don't know but I love it every time Mayorga raises his hands in the air as if he won the round. LOL

    How do you know?

Had the same situation occurred in another round would you have been ok with it?
The 12th round should be called the same as rounds 1 - 11
