Excellent! Thank you.Vey interesting to see Marciano ducking completely under the heavy bag ,don't think I have seen a heavyweight do that before ,factor in he was plagued with back problems late in his career ,I think he was wise to retire,once again thanks for posting.

 

The one some insist he didnt have? I think Dempsey looked more polished against Tunney in their second fight ,than against Willard ,though he was over the hill and down the other side,his side to side ,bob and weave was very good.Sharkey looked very capable too.I was reminded ,looking at Tommy Burns, how fast on his fet he was,moving in and out of range ,looking for a chance to plant his right hand.Also I was struck by how many right hands Schmeling landed on Baer wiithout any visible effect,this was the same right that crucified Louis later.Watching Ali against Williams ,I'm forced to conclude no one would have beaten him that night ,just my opinion.

What struck me was Floyd Pattersons hand speed and accuracy with his left hook. He had the best left hook in heavyweight history, speed, accuracy and power, and he used it from all different angles.

 

floyd pattersons peak fight might have been moore fight. his jab combo punching left hook everything was perfect. too bad moore showed up on an off night(not to take away from patterson victory)...the fight could have been a classic.

Floyd might have given a old rocky a few problems in 1956 till the rock took him out....floyds handspeed was ridiculous and rock was slowing down.




btw, anyone see rocky hitting that 300lb punching bag in his prime? he was a beast!

 

Why you guys shock there is more Burns fights besides Johnson.
We have a good number of Burns fights, hell outside of Jack Johnson himself, and pound for pound though all the weights from Heavyweight to Featherweight from 1897(Corbett Fitz) to about 1910 the comming of Johnson up to Willard, Burns rank number 2 on most fight films off him.
After Burns and Johnson, than the likes of Gans, McGoven, Darcy, ete, all are pretty lucky to have 3 fights or more.

Wish it had more Burns in his section.
I mean there is more film than just the Billy Squairs fight, we have him against O Brain, Gunner Moir, Beckett and others, Should have been more Burns fights besides the one shown. His best fight on film imo is the Moir fight, that was just a amazing beat down. That was Burns "Dempsey-Willard" fight right there.

 

what people dont realize though is as fast skillful beatifully artistic floyd looks in that footage in 1956...he was simply too small and fragile at 182lb to beat an older marciano or even possibly valdez and baker(although i think he might take these guys).

 

There's almost too much footage and fighters to comment on. What struck me most having not seen may of these fighters, is the effectiveness of Louis. Every punch he threw he put his weight into it. If seemed like many travelled between 6-18 inches before finding their mark.

In contrast you can see Ali doing almost the opposite.

But funny enough the outcomes were often the same. Ali's speed helped but he had more power than may people gave him credit for.
