I dont mind admitting it..... I think ol' Fish Eyes is pretty sound myself. I know he has his bad points but I think he gets a lot of stick by us on here and was reminded how funny he was when reading 'The Sun' today. Frankie boy was clearing up a few points with regards to Womens Boxing., and was basically defending the criticism aimed at him by by journalist Sophie Morris (London Evening Standard). The point he was making was that he was mis-interprated and was of the belief that it shouldn't be banned, just that he, himself will not be watching it. I'll post some of my favourite comments below. "Quick to boast about he Muay Thai boxing classes, maybe she has taken too many blows to the head or it has affected her hearing" "Some people I know feel the same way about men's boxing and thats a view I respect. Morris claimed she went to a gym and watched women sparring and they were more 'creative' than men, whatever thats supposed to mean" "So after attending a few Muay Thai classes she's become a female Freddie Roach. But no one in their right mind could ever say that women boxers are the equal of their male counterparts, in any department" "Its just a stupid argument because women will never have the same skills" Then when commenting on the criticism he got over the pregnancy debate he had this to say.... "I'm sure her unborn baby - Which had no say in whether it's mother boxed or not - wasn't too impressed when she was being hit with body shots" Now i'm not opening the debate on women's boxing on here so please don't start that, i'm just commenting on how I actually like Warren and think he's funny. He also came across as pretty sound when talking about the Quigley-Smith fight on SSN the other day. On a plus note too, he probably doesn't like the Calzaghes
haha no i think Franks alright, i probably couldnt be in the same room as him but hes obviously a boxing fan and wants the best for boxing (after himself)
I'll never forgive him for the way he helped marginalise the sport with his minor alphabet titles and the way he milked the Hatton/MEN situation.
I've been a very harsh critic of Warren over the years, on here, in print in the Boxing News and in general discussion. I don't agree with a lot of the things he does and I stand by my opinions, but on the other side of the coin he does some great things for people behind the scenes and helps others out. Behind the businessman and the petty bitterness that comes across at times, there's a very decent fella.
I read his article in The Sun every week, today's one is a beauty. He completely owns that columnist. One thing is for sure, if you are going to have a pop at Warren, you had better have all of the facts straight and put forward a watertight argument. The columnist that got emptied in today's article isnt the first, and won't be the last I am sure....
Agreed Gasman. He vents his fury in his little articles. I look forward to them every week. There's normally something there to make me laugh out loud.
This one is a peach, makes today's one read like a love letter.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2003/feb/02/boxing.features
Ha Ha. Just read it (took a while). nice to see him sticking it to that nob. Doesn't Bunce have a big problem with the a female journo from the Guardian too ?
There was a journo from the guardian who wrote a pile of crap, more or less mocking the imminent downfall of Setanta and took a cheap shot a Bunce. The cow knows **** all about boxing and seemed to look down her nose at 100s of folks about to lose their jobs.
Yeah and bunce mentioned her on of of his shows I saw. I'm boycotting that Newspaper now................................................................ Not that i've ever read it. Sun or Star at a push for me. The Sun's the best though... Tits, sport, easy to read and has 'sun-spots'
I must admit, i've got a lot of time for Warren. Im sure there's a few people that aren't happy with the way theyve been treated by him but boxing is a business as well as a sport and you don't become successful by being nice to everybody and giving them all exactly what they want. The bloke's done a hell of a lot for British boxing and that is a positive that firmly outweighs any of the negatives.
Not a big fan myself, in time honoured promoter fashion he ends up in legal wrangles with every ****ing fighter who leaves hm, and I think it's disgusting that it is allowed to go on in boxing, all the options and all this **** I saw bits of the Hatton paperwork when they split; it was farcical that he was claiming to still have a hold over Hatton, to say the least
