I said he had great power at MW. What part of my post did you misunderstand? When I said "legendary" it might've been a bit hyperbolic, but it was to insinuate he had great power at 160. I've seen a lot of Arthur Abraham when he campaigned at MW.
Uh ya, Cotto is the middleweight champ. Why wouldnt I expect him to fight the #1 contender? Demand more from him? I want GGG vs the best. End of story.
who at 168 is calling Golovkin out, besides a pot smoking tool that can't even make 168 anymore and already turned down $12 million to fight him? N o b o d y. /end thread.
Setting aside the fact that cotto won't fight ggg, you think cotto is a more impressive win than ward, froch, Kessler, jcc....?
Cotto is middleweight champ and I want GGG to be middleweight champ, thats why. GGG will take the first chance that is presented to him vs one the the biggest names. Your icon usage is stupid.
No he can't because the same opportunities aren't there. Different scenario entirely. If the division was stacked or he had great fighters moving up to fight him then yes ggg could do great things at mw. If you can't see the difference then that's on you.
Hagler waited for smaller men to come fight him. He was bigger than Leonard, Hearns, Duran, etc. He refused to budge. His philosophy was I'm the champ. It's my division. If you want my title come get it. It had nothing to do with opportunity. It had everything to do with being the best in your division.
I would be ok with GGG taking same approach for 2015-2016, maybe even 2017 to break the middleweight defense record. But eventually, stepping up may be the way to go for legacy enhancement.
i think ggg and his fans are willing to trade in atg resume and status to break records and dominate a weak division. if no one is willing to go up or down in weight to face him they will be content w ggg staying at 160 and remaining undefeated building a mediocre resume. wlad all over again.
No one would complain of he went UP in weight and beat any of those guys. Abraham would be a good start and could be considered a testing of the waters at 168. He can't be faulted for that. All the others mentioned would be dang good scalps to add and no one, outside of trolls, would look down on him. You say there are a number of fights for him at middle weight, I can't think of one that would compel him to stay there. Cotto won't happen, quillen won't happen, and Canelo more likely than not won't happen. Out of his 3 options at mw, two are PPV worthy and one of those options (cotto) is 99% out of the picture. The most lucrative fight he can make is with Canelo, but he hasn't even fought at 160 yet!!! Canelo would have to, IMO,take on a few top contenders at mw before ggg would be an option. And in those few fights he could lose or not look impressive. Gggs best option is to test the waters higher up and stop waiting for people to come to him. It would far more impressive to win a title at 168, maybe even 175, than it would be to unify the mw division.
I think he can afford to wait just a little longer. There's potential big fights out there at MW, and he should be able claim some more of the belts. I Think he should review his options in another 12 months time. I don't see the point in him moving up at the moment.
