Ok, Bika, Kovalev and Kessler. 3 fights out of a 32 fight career. Wlad held, Hatton was rough, Warrington as we just saw, unserstood boxing ain't no pillow fight. In my opinion, a guy needs to have at least 25% of his fights in question to be considered dirty. Holding, I don't consider dirty or cheating. Holding while hitting(Hatton/Tszyu) is dirty. Wlad's Holding....meh. A side note, Bike was a rough dude as well. Tim Bradley, to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong, had more fights with headbutts than Ward, but when TB is brought up, very rarely do people come out of the wood work and make it a point to call him dirty like they do of Ward. Ward was rough no doubt, but someone needs to show me more than 3 fights to say he's dirty. The reason I say this is because the styles in which people fight, factor into headbutts a lot of the time.
Warrington is skilled but very dirty with the head and shoulder. He never gets docked for the head but he should have against Kiko, who suffered numerous cuts from Joshs head. Don't like him. Reminds me too much of Ward.
I guess you are right. Ward only fight dirty when he needed to if he wanted the W. In the Bika fight both guys fought dirty, but Kovalev and especially Kessler are by no means dirty fighters which made Ward stand out like a son of satan (SOS)
I think if you are trying to establish whether someone is a dirty fighter or not, surely you need to see how many fights against their top opponents they had in which they fought dirty? Its not likely that you are gonna see someone cheating when it's unnecessary due to them being so much better than their opponent.
Yeah, like Confusedguy pointed out. Ward did not need to fight dirty in most of his fights because he was better. Only in the more competitive fights he got excessively rough or dirty. Makes sense.
